Innovative way to communicate with skiddish parent

I've read or listened to all of Dr. Hallowell's books and for the skiddish parent who just can't wrap thier head around the fact they or someone they're close to has ADD...this is the book to start with. If you know there's no cure, or are hesitant about pills...this is the book; he suggest the obvious, that we all know, when all else fails; love will find a way.

Some new information but not as comprehensive as expected

The beginning of the book was amazing with a lot of scientific background and explanations, history and background of the diagnosis of the disease where amazing too, but once it got to the treatment options basically it was two paragraphs with list of things that can be done for ADD with no theft of discussion or scientific background which is unusual for someone who has 50 years of experience. The last recommendations are in every other book or brochures, Believe me I have read more than six or seven of them so far and participate in the webinars and all the new findings that come off the press . I Expected more of a coaching option for approaching the kids in different situations but unfortunately this just listed things that can be done. In a very broad spectrum . What I learned the most about was how to approach the diagnosis with the child and give them the self-confidence that they lack in order to encourage them to be better individuals and not to be discouraged. I also had myself and my child take the Kolbe index that was recommended in the book but the parents guide in the youth test was not helpful at all so I'm not sure the $45 that I spent for myself and $45 that I spent for my child were worth it either. They didn't give me any information about myself or my son that we did not know about.

Excellent reading

Where does Superparenting for ADD rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

On this topic, very close to the top.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

Finally found somebody to verbalise my feelings.... As a (non-ADD) parent of two ADHD kids (22 years apart), this book has given me an understanding into how the ADD brain functions and why I think my children are brilliant while the teachers struggle to get anything out of them. A very rare and balanced approach to medication vs other treatments.

Absolutely LOVE this audio book!!!!

As an adult with ADHD and a father of two awesome boys with ADHD, this book hits the nail on the head and arms me with expert advise to help stand up for my children against an ex-wife who views ADD as an "excuse" or "laziness" and having constant struggles with her and teachers who do not see the amazing gifts that my children have. Couldn't have purchased and listened to this book at a better time! I have to meet with school officials and so called "ADHD experts" because they think my oldest son has LD because he never "knows" the answer to "what did you do today", I'd like to thank the authors for explicitly covering that aspect as well as everything else that accompanies ADHD, it gives me a leg to stand on and I can now stand up for my son and help him whereas before I had no idea how to approach the situation! Now I can walk into these interviews confidently knowing that I can use all my bookmarks to answer almost 100% of the feedback I've been getting from teacher and ex; more importantly I can do so professionally and without a fight. Thanks for everything you do, I've learned a whole lot more about myself and my children from all of Dr. Hallowell's books. Would highly recommend anyone needs help with ADHD!

Great Book if You Have an ADD Child

Edward Hallowell is the best doctor if your child has ADD. He gives great advices, and hope- you cannot despair if your kid has ADD. Your child has a Ferrari brain with bad breaks. Easy to read, and boosts confidence.
But, the only thing that is missing (the reason why I gave 4 stars) is because it don't dig deep about medication. But there is another book that treats about this subject, that is Delivered From Distraction, by the same author.

Super helpful

As a teacher, it was so helpful to have the insight of a doctor and some positive general strategies for encouraging those with ADD. As a PE teacher, we don’t get much support specifically to our field, but understanding how much ADD can work to my advantage, there were some basic strategies towards the end of this book that were helpful. I feel like more practical teacher strategies could be mentioned, but that wasn’t really the purpose of this book. Nonetheless, this is a great start for parents and teachers to understand they need to work as a team to help each child find their strengths (superpowers) and grown in them.
