Publisher's summary

Please note: This is a summary and analysis of the book and not the original book.

Feeling burnt out after devoting excessive effort to her job - with none left for her family - writer Shauna Niequist committed to making a life change. From then on, she was going to slow down, accept imperfection, and prioritize peace over productivity, a journey she documents in her self-help memoir, Present Over Perfect.

Don't miss out on this ZIP Reads summary of Shauna Niequist's life-changing book, Present Over Perfect! Learn how to slow down, be grateful, and most of all - be present.

What does this ZIP Reads summary include?

  • A synopsis of the original book
  • Key takeaways that distill the most important lessons
  • Analysis of each takeaway
  • In-depth editorial review
  • Short bio of the original author

About the original book:

Shauna Niequist was no stranger to stress. After speeding through life, whizzing between conferences, speaking engagements, and deadlines, squeezing family obligations into whatever time remained, Niequist was left emotionally drained. She began throwing up under pressure and developed vertigo. Still, she kept pushing and pushing forward.

This book is her powerful response to her own obsession with achievement. It’s about saying no sometimes, slowing down, choosing relationships over accomplishments, letting go of dependence on productivity, and experiencing the richness life has to offer. It’s about accepting that God’s love is not contingent upon success and is not diminished by failure.

It’s about finally exchanging perfection for reality and learning to be happy with the trade.

Don’t Buy!

If you want an analysis of the book present over perfect that seems to be written by a jealous, bitter stepsister if Shauna ever wants to have one, this is it!

I have read the book present over perfect and enjoyed it very much. I purchased this hoping to get a quick review. This was not that! The actual book was very helpful and really spoke to me. This analysis was filled with lots of judgment and negativity making it seem as though the actual book would be worthless to take the time to read.

My opinion would be to not buy this analysis but to buy the actual book.
