Publisher's Summary

No nation can be greater than the strength of its individual homes or the virtue of its people. Sadly, many today would say ours is a nation in crisis. Families are splintering around us, our children are becoming alienated from their great cultural heritage, and our leaders seem increasingly out of touch. Yet, according to Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, one cannot lose hope. The solution lies not within our government, schools, or symbols of popular culture, but rather within ourselves, our families, and our faith.

In the tradition of William Bennett's Book of Virtues, Hinckley has created a classic look at the values that can change our world - and how to stand up for them. Drawing on anecdotes from his own life, as well as from our nation today, he examines 10 virtues that have proven through the ages to provide the most profound path to a better world: love, honesty, morality, civility, learning, forgiveness and mercy, thrift and industry, gratitude, optimism, and faith.

Standing for Something is an inspiring blue-print for what we can all do - as individuals, as a nation, and as a world community - to rediscover the values that make us strong and by which all of us can work toward a brighter future.

Excellent Book, OK Naration

Would you consider the audio edition of Standing for Something to be better than the print version?

No

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The Narrator was good, well paced, but he doesn't love the subject enough and at times seemed bored.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I loved the book- it was insightful and helped me want to be a better person and see areas of my life in which I could improve. An inspired book!

Any additional comments?

I would like to see this book narrated by a narrator who cares more both about the subject and about people in general. The narrator doesn't detract from the book too much- but his performance does limit the impact of the text.

Let's neglect them no more

I was impressed from the beginning, as I listened to Mike Wallace share his Foreward. Listening to the book, I found myself feeling this is the way the world was meant to be! If everyone lived by these 10 virtues, if most of the world lived by these 10 virtues, if most of the world even lived by most of these virtues, it would heal lives, families, homes, communities, governments - just the idea of it made me decide to do better myself. I offer a friendly challenge that you invest in reading/listening to this book, choose at least one principle, apply it, and see if you don't experience increased fulfillment in your life.
