Publisher's summary

Success in work, love, and life depends on developing habits that activate the powerful prefrontal cortex when we need it most. Unfortunately, under stress, the human brain tends to revert to emotional habits we forged in toddlerhood: blame, denial, avoidance, reacting to a jerk like a jerk, and turning our connections into cold shoulders - or worse.

In Soar Above, renowned relationship expert Dr. Steven Stosny offers a groundbreaking formula for building new, pressure-resistant habits. Based on research in psychology, neurobiology, and anthropology, Stosny will show anyone how to switch to the adult brain automatically when things get tough and to soar above the impulse to make things worse.

Filled with engaging examples from his lectures and therapeutic work with more than 6,000 clients, he explains how to use two potent laws of emotion interaction - reciprocity and contagion - to inspire those around you, creating collaboration and community instead of chaos and confusion. Most importantly, listeners will learn how, through practice, they can get off the treadmill of repeating past mistakes to become their best selves at home, at work, and in the world.

Stress is inevitable in life, but this illuminating book gives anyone the practical tools to rise above.

Life changing/planet changing!

I believe this book has the power to change the course of human evolution. If we can all use the gift of our ability to think and act consciously, and therefore soar above, the ripple effect will create a global village that we all want for ourselves and for generations to come.

Very relevant to the world we live in.

I found the information to be very useful and applicable for me. I've shared it with others who my think would also benefit. The lessons are so relevant to the political environment in America and how it has eroded our ability to empathize, sympathize and demonstrate compassion toward others in the workplace and home.

Toddler Brain: Adult Brain needs to be embraced!

If you could sum up Soar Above in three words, what would they be?

Best Info Ever

What was one of the most memorable moments of Soar Above?

"Our politicians will not grow up until WE grow up" and the author says: "Just because you know what you are doing does not mean you will stop doing it; bad habits do not stop until you purposefully and with determination change them (paraphrased) then he TELLS YOU HOW! I am so smitten my the giving, compassionate and never smug presentation of incredible wisdom. It was not hide and seek, not I am guru you are but particles, no ego in the authorship. It was very neutral and informative. All you need to be is interested in evolving and you are deemed smart enough to "get it". Dr. Stosny is amazing and my new favorite author.

Absolutely spot on!!

As the person dealing with an in-law family with many toddler brain reactions I tried to read some chapters but it triggered to many incidents. But I was told to read the last couple chapters and all the way to the end. I have to say there was lots of help on picking my head up and ways to try be positive.

Life changing

This is the best personal growth type book I believe I have ever read. Practicing the skills Dr. Stosny spells out can be life-changing for anyone if they allow it. Listening to this book took me a considerable amount of time because I kept going back to relisten in order to allow the points he made to really sink in. In my opinion, this book is extremely deep, and rich. That deepness and richness, IS the value. I'm not only listened to this book on audible, I purchased a physical copy to refer back to. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
