Publisher's summary

Unwanted sexual behavior and addiction have become rampant in today's society, largely through the availability of Internet pornography. For example, Family Safe Media reports that 40 million men regularly visit Internet pornography sites. It is so insidious that when a man looks to his left and then to his right, he will likely encounter a man for whom pornography is a major problem in his home.

Paul Becker now offers two books that take men through a structured educational process to identify the characteristics of sexual addiction, why and how addictive behavior took hold of their lives, challenges to ending addictive behavior, and the roles of anger, anxiety, codependency, and depressed mood in addiction. Recovery from sexual addiction is the theme of the second half of the book. Here, men are introduced to hope, ways of changing the addiction dance by coming out of isolation and depressed mood, and how a healthy lifestyle and spirituality accompany the path to sexual sobriety.

Sexual Addiction

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

A friend of mine, who was a Christian psychotherapist, once said "Any man who lives in a sexually-saturated culture like ours is bound to experience-to a greater or lesser degree-some form of sexual addiction".

I completely agree.

This audiobook helps men to understand the most common forms of sexual addiction, what causes sexual addiction and what men can do to recover from sexual addiction.

This is a good audiobook for men seeking to free themselves from the grip of sexual addiction.

Lessons to learn

Rating: 3.75This was a highly informative book. Becker uses his experience as an LPC to give real life examples and highly practical ways to deal with addictions. A few examples that I thought were good: figure out what your triggers are. Once you figure out your triggers figure out alternatives to sway your desire. This was an audiobook, where it was very easy to follow some of the question portions it would have been nice to be looking at the text.

Overtly Religious and Shame Based

Although published in 2012, he uses antiquated terminology (i.e. houses of ill repute, paper pornography leads to internet porn) and concepts. Very addiction model based and not sex positive (although he tries to use some positive lingo), he uses shame language throughout (i.e. abhorrent sexual behavior).
