Editorial reviews

In soothing tones that paradoxically also challenge the listener to take control of his or her life, Arnaud Maitland explores material drawn from beginning and advanced classes on the philosophy and practices of Lama Tarthang Tulku, his long-time mentor. These essays echo the earlier Gesture of Balance - the outstanding introduction to relaxation, meditation, and spiritual development - but delve deeper into Tulku’s teachings of Tibetan Buddhism’s Nyingmaon school and with a greater complexity of lessons to be learned. Advanced visualization, meditation, breathing, and dream yoga techniques are offered to seekers of balance wishing to pursue the path of engaging Dharma directly.

Publisher's summary

This audiobook continues themes introduced in Gesture of Balance, offering listeners more advanced presentations on mind and meditation. Here listeners have an array of opportunities to reflect on experience and find their way through the layers of self-image, tension, fears, and emotions to the ground of authentic being. Beginning with openness, the teachings deepen through meditation and move beyond meanings to engage the path of Dharma directly.

Continuing to unfold, the progression points toward the awakening of Bodhicitta, mind free of illusions, mind no longer separated from enlightenment. Openness Mind introduces visualization, meditation, breathing, and dream yoga techniques helpful to individuals in their daily activities.

Accessible And Deep

This is a profound book of Tibetan Buddhist meditation and mind teachings presented in a conversational, concise and non-religious format. It features real dialogs between Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche and his Western students, which I think is especially helpful to anyone wishing to deepen their spiritual practice without getting stuck within their own concepts or semantics. Although it is relatively short, this volume presents a complete view of mind and reality, and includes easy exercises to help the practitioner realize these essential truths.
