Publisher's summary

What if you could defuse tension and create accord in even the most volatile situations - just by changing the way you spoke? Over the past 35 years, Marshall Rosenberg has done just that, peacefully resolving conflicts in families, schools, businesses, and governments in 30 countries all over the world. On Nonviolent Communication, this renowned peacemaker presents his complete system for speaking our deepest truths, addressing our unrecognized needs and emotions, and honoring those same concerns in others. With this adaptation of the best-selling book of the same title, Marshall Rosenberg teaches in his own words:

  • Observations, feelings, needs, and requests - how to apply the four-step process of Nonviolent Communication to every dialogue we engage in
  • Overcoming the blocks to compassion - and opening to our natural desire to enrich the lives of those around us
  • How to use empathy to safely confront anger, fear, and other powerful emotions

Here is a definitive audio training workshop on Marshall Rosenberg's proven methods for "resolving the unresolvable" through Nonviolent Communication.

Very enlightening

This is a very good book on self development but it requires a lot of work to be applied day after day. By itself, it won't be enough. But it is a good start for thinking in new paths.

Some have complained about tongue clicking. There are some noises from time to time and it is annoying but it is easy to go past this and listen to the full book

You’ve been wanting communication to be this direct and undeniable!

Over the last handful of years, I’ve been confounded by too many experiences when the leadership, communication, and conflict resolution processes that I’ve been taught by the systems in which they were failing only made this worse. Wish I learned these lessons sooner, but at least I’ve learned from them.

The audio quality is horrible, but increasing the playback speed can cause the sibilance to go away.

Insightful and transformational

First, the only reason I didn't give 5 stars for performance was because Marshall takes a little while to get used to. His speech has a lot of mouth clicks and saliva sounds, especially towards the beginning of the book. Some reviews I read panned this audiobook because of that, and I am glad I pushed through that initial reaction. I didn't even notice it after a while, the brain adapts, and it was wholly worthwhile; hearing this book in Marshall's own voice delivers a level of depth and empathy that the pages cannot convey.

The book is amazing. Marshall describes a way of thinking, acting, and speaking that is both foreign AND natural simultaneously. It resonated with my being, while making me wonder how I could possibly get rid of the way of speaking and thinking that Western culture has programmed us to operate in. I will be reading this again, and plan to investigate other materials from Marshall's program. I regret that I did not discover this while he was still alive.

The Nonviolent Game ( A poem by Mandy Reeve)

Saying "blame" and feeling shame
Are not the ways of the nonviolent game.
This is a game that one must play
To achieve life enhancement day by day .
It frees us from our fear of light
So the world around us may be bright.
The Lord with in us is manifest
When we no longer are a pest.

Wonderfully accessible and practical book

Helped me on many levels to understand what life inside and heart is, and how needs are gifts, and how to think and then communicate in terms that help us and those around us transcend resorting to forceful strategies or scarcity based approaches.

Essential

great listen
I'll keep listening until I've mastered Non Violent communication. I have trouble with communication. I offend people easily. With using the information in this book I've turned that around immediately. I just need to work on consistency now.
