Publisher's summary

Women long for deep and lasting friendships but often find them challenging to make. The private angst they feel regarding friendship often translates into their own insecurity and isolation. Christine Hoover offers women a fresh, biblical vision for friendship that allows for the messiness of our lives and the realities of our schedules. She shows women:

  • What's holding them back from developing satisfying friendships
  • How to make and deepen friendships
  • How to overcome insecurity, self-imposed isolation, and past hurts
  • How to embrace the people God has already placed in their lives as potential friends
  • How to revel in the beauty and joy of everyday friendship

With stories of real friendships and guidance drawn from Scripture, Hoover encourages women to intentionally and purposefully invest in one of the most rewarding relationships God has given us.

Wise and caring insight

Listening to Christine share her wisdom about friendships was exciting as well as challenging in such necessary ways! This book was incredibly relevant. It helped me see how I can be prioritizing friendships more, and deepened my view of all that friendship can be. Finally, I am grateful for Christine’s humility and transparency in sharing from her own experiences in such a way that helped me to learn from them and apply that learning to my own life.

Great Lessons on Friendship for Christians

This was amazing to have a Christ-centered book on friendship. The author exposes many of the unhealthy habits in friendship that sneak into the church from the world - lessons the world teaches about friendship that are not actually in the Bible. This book has helped me tremendously in my mindset as I work on rebuilding broken friendships and building new ones.

Helpful

Thankful for the insights and wisdom written here. Some of the words that come to mind when I think of fiendship among women would be challenging, perplexing and surface. Christine's perspective will build up and strengthen your friendships and redirect your focus back toward the purpose for them. If you are a Pastors wife like me.... you need read this book!

Creatively Communicating Connection

Christine reading her own manuscript was like a long conversation with a dear and wise friend. As I listened, the faces & recollections of over six decades were poignant, hilarious, convicting and affirmative. Throughout, she gently prompted me to cherish the imperfections that connect our hearts with sturdy bridges over life’s often troubled waters. I’m challenged by grace and gratitude to be more intentional and more authentic in faith and friendship.

I loved Christine’s beautiful book about Christian friendships! I had never heard biblical teaching about friendship and this book exposed lies I believed that were inhibiting my friendships and also cast a beautiful vision of what friendships can be like. This was so edifying and I am so grateful to have listened to this!

Breath of Fresh Air

l love people. I'm an extreme extrovert and love casting a wide net of relationships. In the "friend department", I've often felt pridefully secure. But this book was a breath of fresh air- offering a crisp and refreshing explanation of the life-giving one and only Gospel of Jesus Christ as it relates to friendship. I was deeply challenged, encouraged, and spurred on in my faith. I am very thankful to Christine for pressing into the Spirit and writing this book so skillfully! Whether you struggle with making friends or have more than you can connect with deeply, READ THIS BOOK!

Convicting and encouraging

This book challenged me in so many ways. It revealed a lot of areas I have sinned in my friendships and showed me a new perspective
It was well read and I love her Texas accent. There was a part where she shared about a friend dying of cancer recently and her voice cracked as she read. I'm sure that's not ideal for an audio book producer but I found it so refreshing, like I was listening to a real person.

A honest look at doing friendship biblically

There's a lot in the Christian media that tells us we should find perfect community at church & have that group of people who look just like you, are safe, don't really challenge you, but are overall supportive & fun to be around. You will not find this here. Christine really hits the friendships that get in to the rough things, encourage is to live biblically & calls us to befriend those we may not initially see. This is an excellent book
