Publisher's summary

We have seen the enemy...and they are small. If anyone understands why children behave the way they do, it's psychologist and best-selling author Dr. Kevin Leman. Equipping you with seven principles of Reality Discipline, this father of five shows you how to get kids to do what you want them to do, foil finicky eaters, turn off temper tantrums and minimize sibling rivalries, use authority and decisiveness to show your kids you're not a pushover, know when to take the little buzzards by the beak, set suitable allowances, curfews, and privileges, and put yourself back in the driver's seat!

Life Saver for you and your kid!

This book has been life-changing for my wife and I. We were always asking our kids (we have 4) 3-5 times to do basic tasks such as put the toys away, go up to your room to get dressed for bed, get in the car and get buckled. By the 3rd request our voices were elevating and by the 5th time we were yelling. Our kids were programmed to only operate once our voices reached a certain volume. This book gave us the skills needed to ask only once and to have a plan ahead of time if you have to ask twice. Our blood pressure is much less and our kids are responding the first time. It feels like a miracle and this only took 1 week to implement. We are happier and our kids are much happier and respectful.

Easy read with touches of humor

This book provided a better understanding of how to use reality discipline as a way to help my children self correct and practice making better decisions. I like that he acknowledges how hard it is for parents and coaches us through it. I actually prefer his book over Dr. Dobson's only because Lehman tone is comical yet straightforward and understanding and he really feels like a coach versus someone who is referencing statistics and how life used to be which is fine but Lehman provides practical ideas.

Soo many excellent suggestions; I'll need to listen to it again so I can catch more of the tips he mentions. Great book!

Will listen over and over again.

Well, I have listened to the whole book through once. Now I will revisit each chapter and work on the discussion questions. I have already begun to use some of the strategies and pleased with the results. Now it is time to dig deep! Looking forward to it. This is the first time I am trying an audible book, and so far, it works with my busy schedule. We'll see!

Great for basic advice on keeping your cool

If you get frustrated easily or yell a lot, the advice in this book will help give you some ideas on how to stay focused and calm in the various situations that are all to common with the littles. I borrowed this audio book from the library first and decided to have it in my audio library to refresh when needed (I mean all the time).

Really life changing!

I only have one child and he just turned two, but I found this book super applicable to my life even with a toddler. I suppose this isn't everyone's parenting style, but it sure is mine. This book was firm and refreshing in a world of "crunchy", permissive, hippy parents that are too scared to discipline their kids. Loved it and will read it again! I need to own it in a physical copy, too. Thumbs up from me.
