Publisher's Summary

A fully revised, new edition of one of the best-selling real-estate investing guides of all time....

Through its five previous editions, Investing in Real Estate has shown investors how to intelligently build wealth with their investments in houses, condominiums, and small apartment buildings. Unlike many titles in this genre, Investing in Real Estate steers clear of the hyped-up no cash, no credit, no problem promises. Instead, it provides sound, real-world advice and instruction that reflects the authors time-tested wisdom and experience.

This book shows you how to invest profitably, safely, and reliably as you navigate the risks and opportunities of todays property market. It covers all the topics investors need to master, including how to find, negotiate, finance, lease out, and manage your property acquisitions. Plus, you will discover how to add tens of thousands of dollars of value to nearly any property.

Whether you plan to start investing or move your current investing strategy to a higher level, two decades of sales success testifies to the fact that this investing guide stands superior to any others that you will find.

This new edition covers all the recent changes in the market, including the latest housing rescue legislation from Congress; a historical review of how to profit from property cycles; and insightful new ways to gain from the current excess inventories of for-sale properties, foreclosures, and REOs.

Author Gary W. Eldred has also authored 10 other successful real-estate titles, including The Beginners Guide to Real Estate Investing, The 106 Mistakes Homebuyers Make - and How to Avoid Them, and The 106 Mortgage Secrets that All Borrowers Must Learn - but Lenders Dont Tell Completely.

Revised to cover current ways to prosper in todays property markets, this book:

  • Includes new, insider techniques for foreclosure investing
  • Features 15 new ways to profit with property investments
  • Explains how to buy properties for less than they are worth from many sources including auctions, bank sales, and homebuilders
  • Investing in Real Estate, Sixth Edition retains its premier position as the most reliable, informative, and comprehensive guide to successful real-estate investing.

    Excllent, comprehensive book.

    Any additional comments?

This book was excellent. A lot of information and very little fluff. So many of these real estate books are just "you can do it," garbage with very little substance. This book was written for someone that thinks infomercial products are trash and has actual resources. I have an MBA and just completed my CPA and didn't feel like this book talked down to more or purposely dumbed down the subject matter. Couldn't recommend enough and I listen to a LOT of audio books.

    Lots of Meat, no Fluff

I agree with the others about the performance, it is slow, monotone and boring. But if you can look past that there is a TON of great information here. This is the best real estate investing book I've read in a long time. For once I didn't feel like I wasted my time on another sales pitch from some rich dad.

    Great Content

A must. Crucial information for anyone looking into real estate investing. I had to give it 4 stars because the narrator sounds like Siri is speaking for over 15 hours.

    Very Informative

As soon as I got to the end of this book, I started it again from the beginning. It covers all the basics and delves further into the most important stuff. The narrator is excellent -- perhaps the best I've heard in any audio book -- though it was odd to hear a female narrate a male author's words in the first person. The only downside was listening through the numbers being broken down, for example, for net operating income (NOI).

    Required listening...

I wish this audiobook could have gone on for 100 more hours. Really informative and pragmatic. I consider this required learning for beginner or seasoned professional.

    Get this book

Super helpful. Easy to listen to. Maybe get the ebook or a hard copy for the graphs and charts and worksheets. But even without them this was a brilliant primer on real estate investing.

Great content - needs to be better organized

Great content - very long chapters and hard to follow some areas. Need to breakup or outline more with clear headers.

Like waiting for a clogged sewage pipe to clear

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The content is OK, but realize that this is the 2009 edition of this book. the recently released 2012 edition is available at (pick your retailer). The narration is--i can only describe it a a digital reader on some kind of sleep medication. My Iphone App Siri has better intonation and cadence in her reading than this narrator.. Every word is uttered in a non emotional tone and enunciated so that it doesn't feel like it's being read, but like it's beign edited out loud...slooooowwwwwllllyyyyyy. I've only made it through the preface/into and am seriously thinking about returning this title. That would be my first return in over 40 titles ranging from currency trading to the history of Columbus. I feel bad for the author, who according to the intel I can gather, is a well respected real estate expert.

What was most disappointing about Gary W. Eldred’s story?

It's old news. 3 years in this real estate cycle is an eon.

Would you be willing to try another one of Katherine Gibson’s performances?

    Absolutely not.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

the basic info is true. Buy low sell high. How can that not be true.

    Any additional comments?

my first dissapointing book from audible. in retrospect, i should probably feel lucky that this is my first after about 3 years.
