Publisher's Summary

Influence is not accidental. It is earned. In, But Not Of charts the course to acquiring influence over the life of a career, while remaining committed to the commands and example of Christ. Broadcast journalist and law professor Hugh Hewitt not only challenges us to become more engaged in steering the course of history through politics, law, finance, and entertainment, but he also maps out simple, effective strategies that will enable us to bring our visions of influence to pass.

Along with Hugh’s simple and helpful advice, the study guide at the end focuses on key selections and questions to help the reader, whether in group or individual sessions, internalize these valuable principles and make a difference in the world. Divided into sections including "Think about It", "Find Out More", and "Take Action", this guide will serve as a quick reference for years to come.

An excellent resource

It more than met my expectations. I could not stop listening. I am going to apply what I have learned today and will use it as I mentor students and raise my children. For those who desire to influence our culture for Christ in a big way, this is required reading. It will challenge you and by the end of the book, you'll know if you have what it takes.

not the book I thought it was

It seems the book is only loosely related to the title, and what I was hoping for was the title exactly.

What I got was the kind of sage wisdom that can best benefit someone who is quite young and hasn't already learned from mucho mistakes. Since that is not me, I had to piece it together from my perspective and try to make sense out of how it might relate to the title.

Most of which is largely personal viewpoints and simply outright dismissing anyone who thinks differently. Of course there could of been some debate onto any of the quickly dismissed points. but that would take away from the hundreds of anecdotes that, in my opinion, are what make this book worth reading.

Although the narrator should be richly rewarded for if it were not for hitting the tone of the author so perfectly I would have hastily deleted the book within minutes. Instead I could tell from the tone that this is a highly opinionated and personally reasoned author who has a lot of interesting things to consider.

That said I let it play without judging too coarsely, and got some interesting ideas to play with in the end.
