Publisher's Summary

Picture this. You've spent a lovely night sitting by the fireplace, enjoying a big cup of cocoa, while catching up with your loved ones. You're totally in the moment and find yourself thinking, "This is indeed one of the greatest pleasures of life."

Cut to another scenario, you have just got out of bed of a chilly wintery morning, lit a scented candled in the room, wrapped yourself in a cozy blanket, and spent the day reading your favorite book. Again the familiar "pleasures of life" feeling.

Think about a particularly stormy night that you spent indoors, enjoying a round of warm drinks and snacks, while discussing interesting current events with a bunch of friends. What's all this about? This is exactly what hygge is in simple words.

Hygge (pronounced hue-gah) is gaining global recognition as a happiness, togetherness, and wellness concept. The New Yorker featured an entire piece titled, "The Year of Hygge, The Danish Obsession with Getting Cozy."

This book will explore Hygge and teach you all you need to know in order to incorporate some of its principles into your life to create a feeling of peace, joy and happiness every day.

like it very much

Having lived in Copenhagen, I wanted to be reminded of their magical hospitality, and to determine whether or not anyone could properly portray it. It is a bit like describing love, and it may have any aspect of that very thing. The author does a good job of suggesting ways to achieve the cozy situation. There is much insight into the joy of Danish life. It can set the reader on the search for hygge. CS

Helpful book

I had never heard of the Danish concept of "Hygge" before this book, but I have to say I absolutely loved it! I guess you could say it's sort of the same concept as "mindfulness" but not exactly. If the idea of slowing down, of appreciating the small things in life and seeing the beauty in everyday moments appeals to you, you will love this book!

nice performance

Loved this book! A great introduction to Hygge for someone living in America. I have already integrated many of the ideas Wiking suggests and my home is feeling much more hyggelig. It's an easy read. Not too in depth, but insightful. Like another reviewer, trying to figure out how to hygge in the summer when it's humid and muggy around here on the southeast coast. I think I see picnics and bonfires with friends in my future!

beatiful boook

This is a delightful little book. To start, the design and illustrations are beautiful designs. Some of the reviews here on Amazon mention the book being repetitive and too simple, but I think that's kind of the point of hygge: simplicity.highly recommended

Repetatively stating the obvious

What was most disappointing about G. Williams’s story?

Repetatively stating the same set of points over and over - I don't want to buy scented candles. Dragging out what could be stated in a sentence into an entire book.

Hygge - "Fully immerse yourself and take pleasure in the little things in life, particularly those that involve loved ones".

What didn’t you like about Michael Hatak’s performance?

It sounded like an infomercial

Glad to listen this book....

If I understand the concept, this book itself is hygge. Charming, happy and positive. The translation differences are adorable. Just a fun, sweet read for a gloomy, blustery winter day.

good and useful...

This book made me so incredibly happy while reading it. The phenomenon and idea of Hygge is something that appeals to my very soul, and it is something that I want to try and implement far more in my life than I already am. As my main resolution for this year is to stay happy, it seems inevitable that I would work towards the Hygge lifestyle.

worth buying....

I heard about Hygge before but never knew anything about it. I love the wellness and cozy feeling that you can get from the right environment given from Hygge. It becomes clear as to why the Danish are the happiest people in the world if they practice this way of life. This book covers topics like food and drinks with tons of clearly laid-out recipes like Danish Sugared Potatoes or Icelandic Kebabs and 10 things you need to create the perfect Hygge Home.
