Publisher's summary

A family rift is one of the most traumatic experiences a person can face. It can have a profound effect on virtually every aspect of life, causing depression, relationship problems, and even physical illness. Healing From Family Rifts offers hope to those coping with a split in their families.

Family therapist Mark Sichel addresses the pain and shame connected with family rifts and offers a way through the crisis and on toward healing and fulfillment. Uniquely, Sichel does not assume that every rift will or even should be mended. Instead, he offers ways to recover from any outcome, including:

  • A 10-step process to come to terms with the family dynamics that led to the split
  • Methods to find peace and personal reconciliation
  • Skills that help to build a second family of people whose values are in line with one's own
  • Techniques to fight feelings of guilt when faced with a family rift
  • Includes inspiring and instructive stories drawn from the author's patients that help listeners put their own situations in perspective

Excellent in every way

This piece of literature was a great help to me - having been discarded by a few. extended family members. It offered insights as to my hurtful extended family members' unhealthy mentalities and also approaches to overcoming their emotional abuse. I really appreciated how the author calls out this rejectful behavior as Abuse. It showed me that I am not alone, that this abusive method of coercive control has a long history and occurs is all kinds of situations.

Great Book

This author's explanation on how families create roles within themselves (either consciously or not) is worth very eye opening. It was a great book..

Find peace with your family

I like everything about this book. It helps you understand members of your family from a very different view. I come from a family like the ones he talks about. I’ve done everything in this book at least me time or another. I could never understand why I did the things I did. I now know what it’s not only me but they must change.

Very helpful

I truly liked how easy it was to follow, the stories were super relatable and the activities were easy to do. This really helped me when reflecting on the estrangement I have with my sister, to help me understand her better and want to heal for my sake as well as for her.

Soooo Incredibly Helpful

A wealth of information. Read nce, listened to it again on audible . And now will purchase 2 copies in hardback to highlight and keep as my bible. Thank you Mark Sichel. The many many stories of others experiences, the letters they write to family members and the lists were awesome. I may use one of them to send to our daughter and husband from who we are estranged. Each of us has grievances a mile long , but it’s time to move on. Thank you for all the insight.
