Publisher's summary

Anthony E. Wolf updates his bestselling classic blockbuster as times change. The first edition of Get Out of My Life, But First Could You Drive Me & Cheryl to the Mall? became an enormous success. The words of Dr. Wolf were so on target that parents wondered if he had placed tape recorders around their homes.

But the world has not stood still—in fact, it is changing faster than ever. And while the classic struggles between parents and teenagers still remain, societal changes have brought about many new ones that parents of earlier generations never dreamed of. Today's parents must deal with such "new problems" as their children experimenting with the latest recreational drugs; increased sexual activity at a younger age; the Internet; and above all, a world that seems far less safe than ten years ago. Dr. Wolf realized the importance of these ever-evolving issues, which is why he has decided to significantly revise Get Out of My Life.

Get Out of My Life provides parents with a new understanding of their teenagers so they will look at them in a whole new light, seeing them as young people on a journey to empowerment. And most importantly, he reassures parents that everything will turn out alright.

Teenagers can be hard...

What was one of the most memorable moments of Get Out of My Life?

I found this book to be informative in whats going on with my teenagers. It covered lots of topics from attitudes to sex and gave helpful, insightful ways to discuss these topics with your own children.

Flawed but still worth it

A great deal too many generalizations (i.e. boys do this, girls do that). However, the techniques I have personally used and this is an priceless book for any parent or guardian.

Required Reading for Parents of Teenagers

Where does Get Out of My Life rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Anthony Wolf understands teenagers. What did I get out of this book? I learned (or was reminded) that parenting is "a job, it is only a job." Take nothing personally about being a parent of a teenager. They will often treat you like rubbish (to put it kindly) and that is their job to do just that. Adolescence is often the worst time in a person's life and a teenager needs to be able to express that. Anger is like poison and remaining calm is the antidote to 99% of situations. I love this book. If there was ever an expert on teens, it is Anthony Wolf.

not as helpful as I'd hoped

he seems to touch on each subject but not enough step by step on how to deal with the problem. he will show examples and then give a very general response or Direction on how to deal with it and then drops the subject. I need more details this just skimmed each subject

You are not alone

Very helpful. There were times I thought that I was the only one going through tough teenage years. This book explained everything.

Goes a long way toward helping parents through

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

YES!

What other book might you compare Get Out of My Life to and why?

"Hold on to your kids"

What about Anthony E. Wolf’s performance did you like?

It was fine.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not necessarily. It is only 2.5 hours, so it's a compact listen with a lot of useful material packed in.

Any additional comments?

"Get Out of My Life" goes a long way in explaining the irrational and difficult years of parenting a teenager. After reading this, I felt I would be able to a much for understanding and effective parent with my teen.
