Benedictine Sister Joan Chittister brings to bear the insights of her years of teaching and contemplation to provide us with a way forward as we search for meaning and purpose in our lives. She offers a much-needed message in a crowded modern world that can seem overwhelming and confusing. Through her examination of spiritual calling, gifts, change, and discernment, Sister Joan leads us to the place where - finally - we know we fit; where we are our fullest selves and can be a gift to the world.

Critic Reviews

"Joan Chittister is a legend. In this book she reminds us that when we connect our passions to the world's pain, everybody wins. Joan's book is a wonderful corrective to the piles of narcissistic, fluffy 'find yourself' books and self-help theology which often miss the secret to fulfillment which is - if we want to find our lives, we've got to give them away.... we are made to live for something bigger than ourselves. Joan nails it. She invites you to cling to Jesus, dive into the world's pain, and do something daring and beautiful with your life." (Shane Claiborne, co-founder of The Simple Way and author of Common Prayer)

too general; not Chittester's best

I often kick off summer reading with Chittester because she gives hope and inspiration to get out of the lawn chair; however, I found this one repeated other, similarly themed books - so it may be worth the time if you've never listened to a Thomas Moore-type on the same topic (to find joy, we must express our gifts in ways which help the world, etc.)

This also might be useful for a book club discussion: She deals with finding and following a call at all stages of life-- not what middle-aged me looked for in a solo listen. The originality of the listen lies in its post economic recession timing. It's very ecumenical in scope, also - no Catholic (or even Christian) worldview presumed.

I like Chittester's narration, but listen to the sample closely; not everyone likes her style.

That said, I'm still glad I downloaded and listened - Support the US women religious who follow their path!

Beautiful Words, Beautifully Read!

Having read several of her books; I'm a huge fan of Sister Joan. But I think Following the Path will have to be my favorite. This is a life changing book for anyone at any stage or season of life. I love when the author is the narrator on Audible and Sr. Joan didn't disappoint! Beautiful words beautifully read! Sister Joan Chittister is amazing and so is this book!

Just What I Needed

I just moved from NYC to San Diego after working and living a hectic life. I embraced my calling for a more balanced life and this book came to me just when needed. We all ask and ponder the questions in this book. Sister Joan gives insightful and candid answers.
