Publisher's Summary

Laura Doyle's marriage was in trouble. After five years her husband had become distant. He seemed checked out of their relationship, preferring watching TV to making love. There were frequent fights that ended with tense silences and even threats of divorce. Marriage counseling actually made their problems worse. Each session seemed to reinforce the feeling that she and her husband were just too far apart.

Desperate to avoid divorcing the man she loved, Laura tried something different. Rather than consulting with experts or professionals, she simply started talking to women who'd been happily married for more than 15 years. What she discovered shocked her: Everything she had heard in marriage counseling was wrong. Laura realized that there are basic truths that can help women maintain loving, intimate marriages.

After seeing her own marriage transform, Laura set out to help other women do the same. In this audiobook you'll learn Laura's Six Intimacy Skills, which have been used by over 150,000 women who have transformed their previously unhappy marriages into blissful unions.

I didn't want to like this book but I did

This book is delivered by the author in a compassionate, empathic tone and loaded with applicable advice. I actually didn't want to like this book because I felt like it was going against the grain of my culturally influenced opinion of men's and women's roles but honestly, this book couldn't have made more sense. Overall, what Laura Doyle says about marriage counseling is generally true and what she is offering instead is an approach that is liberating and effective if you are willing to be open to it. Take and leave what you will but I really think you may take more than you expect.

Practical specific advice

This book gives specific practical advice about how to change the only thing you can control: yourself. I read her first book and was shocked by her advice. But I tried it and it worked. My husband even said years later during a rough patch, he wished I would read that book again. Try it.

Best Marriage Book in a While!

I just finished How to Improve Your Marriage Without Talking About It, which was also really good and goes a little more into brain science, but this book brought it all together for me. I as a wife have SO MUCH control over the quality of my marriage! I will definitely be spending some time on Laura's website. Highly recommend this book.

Finally, simple instructions for being a wife!

Wish I had heard this 14 years ago. Our first year of marriage would have been 180 degrees different. For sure the fault wasn't mine alone. It took 2 of us to mess things up. However if I had had the 6 intimacy skills I see that it truly only takes one to turn things around. Every young woman should be taught these skills.
As the mom of two little guys I can see how I can apply the same skills to my parenting.
If you are frustrated and can't figure out how and why things went wrong, if you're ready to take responsibility for yourself and your behavior LISTEN TO THIS BOOK!

An absolute must for anyone who thinks their relationship is unfixable, or is "on the fence".

I am one of the last people to admit I had much to do with the strife in my relationship, it was obvious to everyone and me, it was my guy. Within one week of listening to this book, my outlook on our relationship has completely changed; and with that, so too has our relationship! The way she presents the information just makes sense. I've always been a tough girl, raised by a single mom who had to do everything. So it's no surprise I didn't really have these skills! I absolutely recommend reading or listening to this book! I never actually write reviews, so that tells you how grateful I am for having stumbled upon this book! I have two friends who are struggling in their relationships right now, well, probably more, and I just text them to see which format they want their copy in (audio or text ;).
