Audobook begone!

In the interests of full disclosure, I should say I am a fan of self-help books and disposed to be positive about them. Unfortunately, I gave up on this one, despite willing myself to finish it. It was frustrating too because I felt some of the core ideas were sound. However, the invocation of, for me, bogus science to back up the ideas became gradually more and more intrusive. I don't think there is any need to postulate mysterious and vague forces and fields which, despite the impression given by the author, have certainly not become an accepted part of established peer reviewed science. This seems to be a growing trend in books of this type - "The Secret" has a lot to answer for. If you liked that book, then no doubt this one will work for you as well. If not, I would steer clear.

Life changing book

I am a big fan of Dr. Dyer's work. I bought this book with the idea that it may help me get off the couch and get things done. Instead, it has changed my whole outlook on my life and my priorities. It is such a deeply, thought provoking and uplifting work, I also bought the hardback version to keep and reread. Dr. Dyer has such a way with conveying deep concepts in a natural, calming and reassuring voice, that it is hard to stop listening to him. You owe it to yourself to listen to this book!

Another Amazing Book from Wayne Dyer

This book gives you complete clarity on the roadblocks and excuses that are preventing you from living your best life. It is understandable, simplistic (though backed by impressive research) and most of all practical. Dr. Dyer gives REALISTIC approaches to eliminating roadblocks (excuses) in one's life. I highly recommend this book, if one approach can help you or make you think differently, it has paid for itself ten fold. He is also amazing to see in person if you ever get the chance. Bravo Hay House for continuing to provide the world with books authored by intelligent, thought provoking people. And no, I do not represent Hay House or any of it's affiliates, the book is just that good.

Excellent book

I thought this was an excellent book, but I do have one complaint: I thought Dyer read too fast at times. I wanted to relax, listen, and take his words in, but there were many passages where he read so fast I felt tense trying to catch everything he was saying.

A Well Done Work

Wayne Dyer's Excuses Begone offers a way to improve your life as well as those of the people you know and meet. So often authors write many words without an actual method to follow. Dyer offers a method to make change for the good happen in your life. He lays it out clearly. An example, "if you have the choice, be kind, rather than right". Overall this work is a very enjoyable mix of spiritualism and rational realism that can be applied immediately. It is well worth several listens.

I believe this book will change my life forever. It certainly has motivated me to follow the instructions in the book. I had read the hard covered book and purchased the audio book for continued listening while in my car or office. My clients,my family and my friends are benefiting from my reading this book. I truley feel This book can change your life for the better,if you let it.I believe in this book so much that I have bought one for my Daughter and one for my brother. I dare say I will be sending more as I discover people in need of EXCUSES BEGONE.

A valuable purchase and addition to my life...

The title says it, and the content backs it up. If you have read Dr. Dyer's other books, this one gives the maturity you would expect from a man of his experience and wisdom. He is very good at getting out the bad in your life (and head) and clearing out space for the good to come in. I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to make positive changes in their life.

I gave it four stars because I am not a fan of his reading, and I think another reader of the audio could have made this even better.

Not for the scientifically minded.

What disappointed you about Excuses Begone!?

The blurb for this title did not give any hint of the entrenchment of "new age" pseudoscientific ideas. I may be hasty in my review but I couldn't get passed chapter 2 because I disagree with the premise so strongly.

The general idea is "Using your thoughts to change your genetics to make your thoughts better." Even if this where possible it's a pretty circular approach to self help.

What was most disappointing about Wayne W. Dyer’s story?

Here's an excerpt from chapter 2:

"The new biology says that there's an energy field surrounding and contained in all your cells and this field is influenced by your beliefs, more over it is from this field that all particles are created. It is the soul governing function of the body.

Here in the 21st century science invites you to stop being a victim of your genetic makeup because a large body of evidence demonstrates empirically that that your beliefs can change your genes."

If the description or blurb contained such language i would have avoided this book. This passage contains ill conceived uses of the words empirical and energy. Does he actually propose that people changing their genes through thought has been observed under blinded experimental conditions where the results are repeatable, passed peer review and published in a reputable journal? Empirical proof of a mystical energy field alone would be enough to turn all of known science on its head.

Science at even a middle school level teaches that energy is no more than a measurement of work potential. There is stored energy in a coiled spring or in a battery. How is work potential stored in an ethereal "field", how are "all particles" created within said field. Can you imagine this phenomenon being observed and recorded under experimental conditions? How could such a thing be observed, recorded and shown to be empirical?

What about Wayne W. Dyer’s performance did you like?

Nice voice, good reader, seems like an accessible person.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I got if free as part of a promotion.

Any additional comments?

I realise that it has good reviews and that it could potentially be an effective book but it simply does not fit my understanding of how the world works.
