Editorial reviews

The writings of 8th-century scholar Shantideva have long been classic texts for people seeking applicable ways to incorporate Buddhism into their daily lives. David Michie uses examples from his own life to make Shantideva's works more accessible to the listener, who can use Enlightenment to Go as a tool to combat the stresses of modern life. Nicholas Bell helps to make Michie's guidance warm and easy-to-follow with a calm and reassuring tone. His relaxed demeanor soothes the listener, who soon begins to realize that Shantideva's teachings are as relevant today as they were centuries ago.

Publisher's summary

For the past thirty years the Dalai Lama has consistently recommended Shantideva’s A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life as essential reading for those interested in applying Buddhist philosophy to daily life. In Enlightenment to Go, David Michie provides a lively and accessible guide to ‘the best of’ Shantideva. Sharing his enthusiasm for Shantideva’s radical insights, life-changing psychological tools and transcendent wisdom, he draws on a wide variety of scientific sources – from mindfulness training to cognitive behaviour therapy, from neuropsychology to quantum physics – to show how Shantideva’s Guide is as relevant as ever.

Whether you are a newcomer to Buddhism or a seasoned practitioner, Enlightenment to Go offers a glimpse of a radiantly different reality – and a beautiful illumination of why the Dalai Lama recommends Shantideva’s Guide above all others.

Nearly missed because of my stubbornness!

Thank goodness I decided to get over myself! When I first heard Nicholas Bell narrating a number of my favorite author, David Michie’s books, I thought I didn’t like his reading. I had downloaded this, Enlightenment to Go, as well as the others available by same author and reader but was fussing to myself about Nicholas Bell’s presentation — and nearly missed another Michie gem!
So, if, as am I, you are enthusiastic about Life and going more deeply into it, perhaps exploring Tibetan Buddhism, don’t hesitate to pick up Enlightenment to Go. Talk about clear, practical encouragement! I continue to be deeply grateful for David Michie & his friendly, interesting, warm, candid & totally generous writings.
