Publisher's Summary

The rules for living in the real world have changed, because the world we live in has changed. Much of the conventional wisdom the last generation has passed on just doesn't apply like it once did. If you want to win, and win big, and, more importantly, keep what you work so hard for, you need a crystal-clear view of how the real world works - not how you wish it worked, but how it actually works.

In Life Code: The New Rules for Winning in the Real World, six-time New York Times number-one best-selling author Dr. Phil McGraw abandons traditional thinking and tells you the ugly truth about the users, abusers, and overall "bad guys" we all have in our lives. He also reveals the secrets of how they think and how they get to and exploit you and those you love. You'll gain incredible insight into these negative people, which he refers to as BAITERs (Backstabbers, Abusers, Imposters, Takers, Exploiters, Reckless), and you'll gain the tools to protect yourself from their assaults. Dr. Phil gives you the "Evil Eight" identifiers so you can see them coming from a mile away, as well as their "Secret Playbook", which contains the "Nefarious 15" tactics they use to exploit you and take what is yours mentally, physically, socially, and professionally. Life Code then focuses on you and your playbook, which contains the "Sweet 16" tactics for winning in the real world.

Edgy, controversial and sometimes irreverent, Dr. Phil again abandons convention to prepare you to claim what you deserve and claim it now. You take flying lessons to learn to fly, swimming lessons to learn to swim, and singing lessons to learn to sing. So, why not take winning lessons to learn to win?

not what I expected

I was really disappointed by this book. I expected the no nonsense advice I hear from Dr Phil every time I watch his show but this book is very sinicle and almost mean. Maybe I should have read more but I didn't get past the first two chapters.

Good reading

I read some reviews who said that it's all about himself so that I almost didn't buy it - I don't see it though, and I am glad that I got it. Of course, he uses examples of himself because that's how he learned and progressed. I like especially the chapter on the evil eight as I had hunches about the character of those people which have now put into words. I have always liked his clear language of not beating around the bush. I am learning from his book and am glad he wrote it.

Great advice.

Excellent discussion, with common sense advice, many good examples. I agree this book is to be listened to several times, because it's clear we need to duo better.

Dr. Phil is the BOSS!!!

This book/audiobook is LIFE CHANGING. Not only has it opened my eyes and detailed/defined the "doormat" subconscious reality I have been dealing with/accepting my whole life (unfortunately), but I now have a much more clear understanding as to why it has and is still happening. In all honesty, I used to think that Dr. Phil was a "Crock-O-Crap" and fake doctor (which was most likely driven by the negative "MSM" I have witnessed against him), but after listening to his book I have gained an astronomical amount of respect for him. If you are fed up with how others are affecting your life and want to learn how to combat/remove/deal with such people, then this is the book to read/listen to. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars (it deserves a million). Thank you Dr. Phil (aka Dr. Bossman!).

okay - but sad awareness

My director recommended I read this book because I was deceived by one of my direct reports. It makes me sad how deceptive individuals can be and I feel I am more aware now. However, not sure if I am more aware based on my real-life experience or because of this book.

Great tips

The only thing I find negative is his approach to single moms..although I can appreciate him pointing out potential dangers...this book is read like he is actually talking to you which to me keeps your interest..

Sensationalist and Insensitive.

Badly done. Encourages ugly atitudes towards those he calls "jerks" who more often than not are people in serious need of help.
