Publisher's Summary

Dark psychology is one of the most powerful forces at work in the world today. It is used by the most powerful influencers the world has ever known. Those who are unaware of it risk having it used against them. Don't run that risk!

In his book entitled Dark Psychology 101, author Michael Pace offers a cutting-edge distillation of some of the most powerful principles in the world of dark psychology. Each chapter explains an aspect of dark psychology in a way which is understandable for a layman with no specialist scientific knowledge. Ideas are illustrated with examples to make the task of understanding dark psychology easier. In addition, the book contains case studies and useful profiles on the types of people who make use of this "black magic" in their everyday lives. You will be also shown how you can apply the principles of dark psychology if you choose to.

Please be warned, this book is not for the faint of heart or the weak of mind. Once you have lifted the curtain on the world of dark psychology, there is no going back. You will have an understanding of human nature that few have ever obtained. With great power comes great responsibility.

    "Ehhh... Mostly general knowledge"
Would you try another book from Michael Pace and/or Jim D Johnston?

I have listened to other titles by Pace, and they seem to be repeats of this title. I can never say never, but I was looking for something that was more in-depth.

Would you be willing to try another book from Michael Pace? Why or why not?

Sure, I am not one to disregard an author based on a single title... The topics discussed are general knowledge, but maybe to some of the more naive, the discussion of these psychological tactics would be eye-opening. Just this book wasn't for me, as anyone that has a couple of semesters of college psychology already understand many of these techniques.

    Any additional comments?

Again, the topics discussed are valid and would shed some light to people that haven't had some psychology classes in college... I love psychology and even made it my minor. I was looking for more in-depth discussion and examples, but then again people are quite simple beings (have some inherent and predictable triggers) even though all of us don't want to admit it or flat out deny it.

"Discount Robert Greene as Read by Some Stiff."

If you are interested in the topics presented in this book, then I strongly recommend that you read the works of Robert Greene instead. Michael Pace repeats himself too much and says too little. The narrator here is a bit emotionless for my taste as well.

Repeats itself and doesn't explain much. The writer tells you what people do but do not share how to do anything. Very misleading.

Very lame. The intro leads you to believe it was really going to be "dark". The author actually tells you, "you are warned." I was very disappointed.

    "Psychology"

This book is an overview of how basic psychological principles may be used against people. This is not a "How To Do It" book. This is a "How It Has Been Done" book. You are introduced to the general psychological principle which is then explained how it has been used against people. The entities who have used psychological principles range from governments, businesses, religions, cults, terrorist organizations, to individual people. All of these entities have at least one core idea in mind and that is to utilize psychology to benefit their own self interest regardless the condition in which it leaves their victim.

Any one familiar with basic psychological principles will not discover anything new in this book. It is however, a well done overview of psychological principles and how they may be used to cause harm to a group of people or one person. I did enjoy the presentation of the material but not to the 4-star level. The narrator was excellent. This is so much better than a TTS narration. I think the cost of upgrading to the Audible narrator version was well worth the cost and am happy that I made that choice.

"Wasn't a great fan of the book."
What did you like best about Dark Psychology 101? What did you like least?

What I liked best was that it was clear in many regards in terms of terminology and examples.

What I liked least was that I wasn't informed whether this was evidence-based (were the years recent?) and that much of the book seemed tailored more towards relationships (intimate) than dark psychology in the political realm or other "real" dark psychological fields (e.g., USA CIA type examples) like business (the use of persuasion in getting people to do wrongful acts conformity, compliance, obedience, etc.)

For me, the book was more tailored for lay people to learn about psychology in practical ways to help themselves. That's not the reason I wanted a book, as it skimmed over the areas I'd really be interested in.

Would you ever listen to anything by Michael Pace again?

The author, no, I don't think his books are tailored for academia (although I am basing this off one book, so I could be wrong).

What didn’t you like about Jim D Johnston’s performance?

I actually didn't mind the reader, I'm sure if he has read other books that they are probably good, but in this regard, it was specifically the content of the book, not the reader.

Did Dark Psychology 101 inspire you to do anything?

I don't think, maybe make myself more aware of victimisation in intimate relationships.

    Any additional comments?

Ok for lay people interested in self-help or "very" broad psychology, not so for those interested in learning about psychology being used in negative ways (obviously not to use it that way).

    "Useful, easy to understand "

I thought it was a good general introduction to the concept of dark psychology. The writer could have used more case studies and anecdotal examples throughout the chapters to make his teachings less general and more memorable, rather than leave them to the end.
All in all, I would recommend a read through. I found it useful and interesting.
