Straightforward sound advice

This book has invaluable advice about handling chronic pain. It has a couple chapters about exersices, nutrition, and meditation but the meat of the book is about how to break out of the depressing cycle of turning inward during pain and not moving over to a new cycle of moving even though it hurts and interacting with life even though you feel alone. I can't say it enough, this is a great book. I particularly like the part about dealing with a setback. If I have an extreme day of pain i can listen to that section and immediately be recentered on hope and recovery.

Helpful view, not U.S. based, resources are U.K.

I enjoyed this book but kept wishing the U.S. had places akin to his U.K. references. In the U.S. my pockets were drained too quickly to find lasting relief. Searching for a new livelihood due to painful arms and hands. When I find the new livelihood, I'll write a book about it (well dictate a book ;)

Coping Successfully with pain

So many of us suffer from pain. The younger amongst us may have an accident or illness; as we age it is just getting older that means our joints creak and do not work the way we were used to. The advice, experience and techniques in this valuable book go a long way to help anyone suffering unwanted pain (and who wants pain?) Well read and something one wants to have to hand.

It's not all in the mind

It helps when someone writes from experience. This book cannot solve all your pain problems and you need to make some effort to reap the benefits, but it's well worth listening to the suggestions and giving them a really good go.
You have to be prepared to practice but the alternative is just to endure pain, this gives you some really useful tools to cope - even fight back a bit if that's your approach!
For just a few dollars it's definitely value for money.

good but slightly outdated

it was well worth listening to and does have lots of good info and advice but vwhile the advice for pain and the best practice for treating it has not changed in twenty years the book does need some serious updating in other areas.

Genuinely helpful

To listen to the thoughts and experiences of someone that truly understands pain as this author does was alone very helpful to me.
I would recommend this book for the detailed mental and physical exercises alone, which I am already finding very beneficial.

I bought this in conjunction with the Treating Arthritus - the drug free way. The recommended buying is so useful, now i have 2 fantastic books to get through. What an excellent range of books.

Life changing

having suffered with chronic back pain for many years, I found this book both heartening and encouraging in a way that no doctor or professional had been. Especially useful is the practical guide on relaxation, using imagery and meditation and physical exercises - all of which now feature as part of my daily routine. There are no easy answers - to overcome chronic pain requires application, mental and physical, but the benefits are utterly life changing.
