Publisher's Summary

The definition of a codependent relationship is very broad. In fact, every relationship we enter into has some level of codependence. As humans, we interact and rely on others to make our lives better. There are plenty of healthy relationships out there where people coexist and help each other in equal ways. It is when the relationship becomes heavily one-sided that it becomes a problem.

Dysfunctional codependent relationships are very common as well. While there are many scenarios in which they occur, addiction is very often thrown around. People who are addicted to substances like alcohol will readily manipulate those around them to support their addiction. While we have all seen this before, what is a little harder to see is relationship addiction, in which a person becomes so dependent on their partner that they will do anything to keep that relationship the same. This usually means that their partner suffers the consequences, causing tensions and resentment to rise. Often, these relationships escalate into cases of emotional and physical abuse.

This book will detail the possible scenarios of dysfunctional codependent relationships in an effort to bring light to a common, yet often undefined problem within the inner workings of society. Most people do not realize that they are manipulating others, or that they are being manipulated, but a great deal of stress stems from it.

With help recognizing these problems, you will be able to identify codependency and its triggers and find ways to set boundaries within these relationships to improve your life and the lives of those around you. It is impossible to cut interaction with people out of your life completely, and that is certainly not recommended. Instead, learn to have healthy relationships with others while protecting your best interests.

An excellent book that goes straight to the point and the heart of the matter. Think you are being emotionally manipulated? listen to this book and you will know for sure whether or not it is your mind or someone else that is playing tricks on you. I am guessing that if you pick this book out, it is likely someone else. This book is an excellent source for getting to know the signs so you can remedy the problem.

short and easy guide

I didn't realize I was in a Codependency relationship until I listen to this book. I've always been one of those women who swore she'd never been in "that type of a relationship." But here I am and thankfully I now recognize it. If you feel unhappiness in your current relationship, this is a must listen to it. Opened my eyes and now I can heal & move forward. No one deserves to be treated badly. I recommend this book highly.

Codependency.....

It is full of practical information including a Codependency Checklist Test to help identify unhealthy relational patterns that can be applied to any type of relationship, understanding the root causes of codependency, how to confront your own codependency, and a Codependent Relationship Profile that lists attributes of unhealthy relationships.

Glad to listen this book....

This book was difficult to listen to only from the standpoint of admitting to myself that I exhibit several codependent traits, but it also helped me to recognize that it is necessary for me to analyze the drive behind my thought-processes before implementing any actions.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED....

My pastor recommended this book, it was perfect for me. I struggle with codependency but not in an alcohol-related way. It is a great book for people of all walks of life and level of struggle. If you find yourself getting too attached to people and unable to say no then this is the book for you. The examples and scriptures were excellent and easy to understand. I was able to easily take notes of points that applied to me and I have even used this book as an outline for helping others.

This book is fantastic. Once I started listening to it, I couldn't put it down. The author gives descriptions of each type of codependent so that there is a through understanding of each one, goes over the traits of each, gives examples of how you might fit into each one, then gives good sound advice, exercises, and techniques for overcoming them. Just the suggestions for building your self-esteem and learning how to love yourself make this book a must read. I recommend to everyone.

best book for codependency

Some people may not realize that their codependence is already having an impact in their current relationship. This is not just limited to spouses, but also to parent and children and vice versa. This book will show you how to end codependence and have a more fulfilling and happy relationship with your loved ones. The writing is not preachy and very much logical in its approach in identifying the underlying causes of codependency.

helpful book

It is a compassionate understanding of why people develop codependent behaviors, but also holds them accountable for their current behaviors that lead to unsatisfying relationships. It also presents skills and a "plan" on how to break the cycle of codependency while atill maintaining respect and compassion for other people in our lives. Learning to take care of oneself first and foremost does not require cutting people off or becoming cold-hearted as some ignorant people might suggest. It does require listening well to oneself and to orhers to make thoughtful decisions, rather than ingrained reactive ones, about how to act.

self help book

Very clear and straight forward. This shows the complexity of this issue and the various levels that a person can experience. Compared to other books I have listened on codependency, this one leaves the listener with a positive attitude towards improving his or her situation instead of virtually condeming one to a lousy, unhappy and relatively short life like other books do.Highly recommended
