A truly life changing book

There's few books that come along and grab your heart & completely alter the way you think & consider life. This is one of those books. Your going to want to skip back 30 seconds every 30 seconds. Tons of gems, & this is one I'll keep listening to month after month.

One of the Best

Would you consider the audio edition of Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself to be better than the print version?

This is definitely one of the BEST books I've ever listened to or read. PERIOD. The amount of research that went into this book is impressive. It essentially talks about the law of attraction, but not in a "new-agey/feel good" way, but rather in a scientific/logical manner. It's hard to summarize, but the way he explains it along with all the studies he offers just really makes it all so much more clear. I mean, I've always been someone who has wanted to believe in the idea that our thoughts affect matter (since both are truly energy), but deep down, I always doubted it. I don't doubt it for a second anymore and it's because of the scientific studies presented in this book. If there is ONE book I'd recommend when it comes to changing one's habits in order to cultivate better ones, this is it. I loved it so much, I even bought his guided meditations which are also amazing and offered for a very reasonable price on his site. The only reason I gave a three star for the performance is because the narrator isn't exactly incredibly engaging. I mean he isn't the worst I've heard, but definitely not one of the best. However, with that said, the information in this book is definitely interesting enough to keep one engaged!

The habit of being yourself is extraordinary work. It goes in depth, great tone, and great flow. Must read for those into science and mysticism beautifully.

Most impactful book I've ever read / listened to

If you want your life to be changed for the positive, this is the book you need.

I have never submitted a review for anything in my entire life. This book made me come and submit a review, just in case someone was on the fence about getting it.

if you love science, you will hate this

Any additional comments?

The very first chapter is loaded with Deepak Chopra / The Secret level nonsense. The blizzard of pseudo-science includes: mistaking energy for thoughts, mistaking energy for consciousness, misrepresenting the meaning of the observer effect, citing tiny, horribly conducted studies with tiny effect sizes as proof of outrageous claims, then proceeding to overstretch what those results would even mean... and when the bag of tricks is empty, simply resorting to saying "It makes sense that... [wildly unjustified conclusion]" when he has a completely unsupported leap to make.

the crazy thing is, all that babble wasnt even necessary. it was mostly to underscore the importance of thoughts. i already agree. you dont have to lie to me about science. I'm already on board with the premise that my thoughts are incredibly important and can shape my life. but it's because they affect my actions, not because they do quantum magic. (or if they do magic, there is no proof of it)

i am just starting the book, so i dont know what the authors recommendations are yet, but i plan to try them. of course, the hurricane of scientific misrepresentations and overreaches the book starts with doesnt give me confidence that the authors thinking is going to clear up later, but we'll see.

i just had to warn people. there should be a sticker on the cover: "WARNING: author tries feebly to use quantum mechanics to justify his half-baked philosophy." I would have been much more comfortable reading a book that didnt try to impress me with garbage science, and just said "try this, it works for me"

Where are the diagrams and charts Audible??!

Dear Audible
You are WAY too grown up (and profitable) to be NOT providing any and all charts, diagrams, pictures and supplemental material etc. for any such books that come with such mentioned items.
These are INTEGRAL to many books.
The lack of such items makes your service less valuable to your listeners, as well as your investors.

Excellent

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely, this book is transformative. The book starts by teaching how the external world is a reflection of our internal world. It provides step by step instructions on how to transform ourselves to become a new YOU. I then provides step by step instructions on how to achieve this goal through meditation.

Who was your favorite character and why?

not applicable.

What about Adam Boyce’s performance did you like?

Very good narration

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This is a great book to elevate our consciousness. I experienced synchronicity while listening to the section on synchronicity.

Any additional comments?

At the end of the book the author provides information about human being's purpose, the importance of shedding the inner veil so that we may let our true nature which is divinity shine. That is the part of the book that resonated most with me.

Any additional comments?

I'm not all the way through yet. It's interesting, but annoying when he says to refer to Figure so-and-so and I don't have it. Would it be so hard to make an accompanying PDF file with the figures he says to refer to?

Brilliant, brilliant content - shocking narration

One of the best books in this field that I have ever consumed. The content was worth enduring the narrator who I found excruciating at times. Why choose an Australian accent for starters?! I'm Australian but having listened to Joe Dispenza a lot and the narrator just didn't seem like a good choice. The worst part was when he was quoting others, particularly females, and he used this pathetic tone to mimic them in the most condescending way. I would love it if it could be Re recorded by JD or at least someone else.
Enough moaning!.....
Joe D's take on all this is so brilliant. I have consumed thousands of hours of science meets spirituality material and this is the best, most trust inspiring work I have ever listened to. For me it was the perfect balance of science and spirituality. Thank you Joe for the most wonderful gift.
Despite the narration I'll be listening again and again.

Mind-blowing

I have bought so many books on self improvement and most have been interesting and informative and some have actually hit me with a change I wasn't expecting.
I have listened to talks on youtube by Dr Dispenza and been riveted by his knowledge of the brain and it's functions, but it went no further than that. They say when the pupil is ready the teacher comes!! Wow, I was enthralled from the beginning to the end, so much of every I have inwardly inching towards, laid out for me to understand, eloquently and succinctly framed in such a that it flows.
Thank you Dr Dispenza.

Quantum misunderstanding

I couldn't listen to any more after working out that his basic premise was that the observer effect within Quantum mechanics lets you "effect things with your thought". - As Richard Feynman put it: "Nature does not know what you are looking at, and she behaves the way she is going to behave whether you bother to take down the data or not." - quote from the wikipedia page.

It may well be that some of the meditation practices work just fine, but if you're going to spend a good few chapters telling me that I need to understand the Quantum physics of my brain, to then go and get it wrong when you explain it to me, I'm not going to listen to the rest of the book.

Snake Oil

There are a million and one self-help books on the market so everyone is trying to give their brand a new spin to get readers. This author has decided to rehash the old concept of positive thought with a splash of brain plasticity and 'quantum physics' (note the quotes). It is true, and proven, that positive thought can restructure the brain to a small extent, even in adults, but this isn't enough for Mr Dispenza. Instead, he introduces a woefully flawed take on quantum physics to suggest the mind can influence external events and not just on a quantum scale, but on a macro scale, and a significant one at this. This is the exact definition of magic. His daughter, he informs us, arranged her holiday in just this way.

Quantum mechanics does not support ANY of Dispenza's assertions (you don't need to be a theoretical physicist to know this) and even if it did, the idea of macro external change through positive thought is utter bunk. Dispenza has simply tried to sciencify that appalling offering of ten years ago 'The Secret' in a hope that people are gullible enough to swallow anything as long as it has the word 'quantum' in it.

My advice is save your credits and instead of buying this snake oil salesman's wares is to get your coat on and take a walk outside. That will do you far more good than this rubbish ever could.

What the ... absolute rubbish

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

Who would enjoy this book? I wouldn't know, apparently the guy is a success, so there are people out there who listen to this crud. Pontification taken to the extreme, repetition, over explain very simple ideas, but I had to get to the 'so what' point and it was NLP with a packaged 'meditation' approach. Please don't waste your time with this one. Read 'The Secret' which is basically the same book but with some fun idea of making a picture board.

What will your next listen be?

Some fiction and not read by an Australian. Having the pedantic message given in a drawl was at time painful, but he stayed on theme and read fully so got 2 stars rather than the 1 I felt like giving.

What didn’t you like about Adam Boyce’s performance?

Maybe the problem was the book's content, but I will check the nationality of the reader next time

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself?

Distribute chapters 10, 11 and 12 to earlier into the book, not in sequence as they are the 'message', the rest is convincing you of the approach. And it might have felt less repetitive if reading and practical were mixed.

Any additional comments?

This book cannot be listened to only as it refers to images, I bought this as a Kindle / Whispersync mix, is it needed.

Excellent book however an accompanying PDF download would have been good as he references images a lot. I agree that it would be better to have as a paperback. Other than that, great content, love Joe Dispenza :)

Don't get this on audible - no appendixes

What would have made Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself better?

Including the appendixes which is the key part of this book. The practical part on how to implement is fairly brief and refers you to the appendix for guided meditations for each exercise.... which is what you need to implement all the learnings....... but no appendix in Audible version. Buy the real book and save your money as I'm now having to buy it as well!

Amazing Book

Any additional comments?

The book is a revelation and brings together many aspects of spirituality ie mind and consciousness with science eg quantum science. Its is a long book and the downloadable PDF is appreciated. The only lacking part is the 'how to" ie the mediations are not in the book. You need to purchase these separately. The issue is not the money moreso the hassle of trying to find and download and convert and audio format. This is a key concern for me because anyone that truly wanted to make change would make that part so easy to access.

find the power of the mind fascinating and certainly this book is great to help understand this. very disappointed when it started on about higher levels of intelligence and The Creator. The credibility of all I learnt was diminished.
