Publisher's Summary

As a child growing up in a family of cantadoras (keepers of the old stories) Clarissa Pinkola Estes learned first hand how a stroy told at bedtime can soothe away the troubles of the day and prepare the way for another night's dreams to follow.

Now a beloved cantadora herself, Estes shares this treasured family tradition with you on Bedtime Stories, her own special collection of tales to relax and ease you to sleep.

I'm new this author, but I was impressed enough to buy her other works as well. This audio book is very soothing, and lush with visuals. The evenings when I listen to it I find I dream deeper and more vividly.

Ever since I was a child, I've been comforted by spoken word and stories . I love Simon Vance's narratives, Anthony Bourdain's humour.

    "Disappointing"

I love her work, and looked forward to more of Dr.Estes spoken word since buying Women Who Run With The Wolves many years ago. I have The Beginners Dream Interpretation and one or two others.

This was a bit of rehash for me. Her gorgeous mellifluous voice felt very precious towards the ends...a bit contrived and I lost interest.

    "A great cure for insominia!"
    Any additional comments?

The narrator's voice is incredibly soothing and caring. After she encourages you to fix your favourite pillow in place and assures you that there is no judgment if you fall asleep whilst she is reading, it took me four days to listen to the entire (very short) book. The bedtime stories are not new, but they do take you back to a time when they mattered for many of us. Somewhere in between thinking that adults 'don't do this' and the alluring sense of feeling that all is okay, it is hard not to submit to sleep. Once listened to, I won't re-listen again too soon, but can't bring myself to delete the book from my library either!

    "Essential"

Of course the stories are wonderful and her voice mesmerizing, but what is essential for me is the fact that they are bedtime stories, and. It is a soothing package I use night after night and year after year to soothe me to sleep.

It's a package of relaxation, empowerment and travel to other worlds. It puts my nervous system in just the right place for a good nights sleep and it is better than a sound machine

"So far, so good. I've listened 3 times and"

I've fallen asleep each time, but at different parts. Her voice is gentle, the music is soft and beautiful and the stories a little different than what I heard as a child.

    "Soothing"

Yes, I love bedtime stories! Who decided adults don't need those anyway!?! This production is lovingly made to soothe the tired body while recognizing the inner child who still needs to feel comforted and properly tucked in. I would buy more like this!

"Clarissa Pinkol'a Estes is a gifted Storyteller"

I first purchased own two of her cassette tapes and have never been able to part with them. In her culture, storytelling is an ancient art passed down through the generations. In this audiophile, Clarissa lulls your child (or you!) to sleep with her magical voice and voice quality unequalled by most. I love how she says that we enter seep as children and awake as children so stories are the perfect way to enter the dream world. I was asleep in 3 minutes. I got a free book to write this honest review

"Zzzzzz - but in a very good way"

Like many people, I can find it hard to fully switch off and drift off to sleep at night. I've tried several audiobooks, with varying degrees of success down the years, however, I can heartily recommend Clarissa Pinkola Estes' book.

It's not just what she's saying, but the way she says it, that will have you dozing off within minutes.

The fact that I'm yet to actually make it through to the end of the book would be seen as damning criticism for most audiobooks, but, given what Estes sets out to achieve, it is obviously incredibly high praise.

A must-download for anyone searching for sweet dreams come bedtime.

I love listening to Dr Estes, she has a warm and mystical voice. I used to avoid going to sleep until completely exhausted but with this book I am training my mind and body to prepare for sleep in a healthy way.

"Even grown ups need a bedtime story."
If you could sum up Bedtime Stories in three words, what would they be?

    Goodnight, sleep tight!

What other book might you compare Bedtime Stories to, and why?

The Creative Fire by the same author, otherwise this audiobook is quite unique.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I love the way Clarissa Pinkola Estes retells familiar tales so that they sound fresh and new.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Well, it's just not that kind of book, it's designed to sooth you off to sleep, so it would be something like, "You won't stay awake long enough to see the ending."!

    Any additional comments?

CPEstes has such a lovely voice and she lulls you into a dreamy state in which her reading works on a subconscious level. The only thing that spoils it is the corporate man's voice that wakes you up at the end saying, "Thank you for listening to Audible." Perhaps Audible could consider leaving this off their products designed to induce sleep.
