Publisher's summary

Baby-Led Weaning explodes the myth that babies need to be spoon-fed and shows why self-feeding from the start of the weaning process is the healthiest way for your child to develop. With baby-led weaning (BLW for short), you can skip purees and make the transition to solid food by following your baby's cues.

At about six months, most babies are ready to join the family at the kitchen table and discover food for themselves. Baby-Led Weaning is the definitive guide to this crucial period in your child's development and shows you how to help your baby:

  • Participate in family meals right from the start
  • Experiment with food at his or her own pace
  • Develop new abilities, including hand-eye coordination and chewing
  • Learn to love a variety of foods and to enjoy mealtimes

Baby-led weaning became a parenting phenomenon in the UK practically overnight, inspiring a fast-growing and now international online community of parents who practice baby-led weaning - with blogs and pictures to prove it! In Baby-Led Weaning, world-leading BLW authority Gill Rapley and early BLW practitioner and coauthor Tracey Murkett deliver everything you need to know about raising healthy, confident eaters.

Critic reviews

"Their arguments are scientifically sound, especially when it comes to muscle development in the mouth, and they address the anticipated counterarguments.... If mine were little again, I would definitely try this." ( Library Journal)

Really easy to undertsand

It was real easy to follow. Read very well. The book gave me much to think about when I start introducing solids to my daughter.
Basically just put food in front of her and let her explore her world. Let her be in charge of what she eats instead of force spoon feeding on them.
She goes on to explain the implications of baby lead weening on the babies confidence, motor skills etc. And also addressing the negatives to spoon feeding.
All in all, really good book

There really needs to be a PDF with this audiobook

There really needs to be a PDF with this audiobook. I heard there are some good recipes in this book (haven't finished it yet), but without a PDF companion, you're kind of missing out.

Great information, very redundant

We will definitely be doing BLW with our 6 month old. Great information and makes starting solids seem possible!

Great Book, Would Be Best To Have Hard Copy

This book is great, but I'm finding that a hard copy (or even a kindle version) would be better for reference. The reader is a great voice, that's actually very relaxing to listen to. Occasionally she said the word "breakfast" weird, which is a bit jarring.

No Data or Sources

The authors don’t present any scientific data to back any of their claims, only anecdotes from parents who have tried it. I think I’ll stick with the tried and true spoon-feeding method.

Title topic is great mixed with poor advice

Good explanation on baby led weening and the thought process of it, but the author provided mostly advice that no research was done on, provides nothing but wives tales and anecdotes to support positions, and tries to advise on topics that the author had only a limited understanding of.

misleading title

this book had nothing to do with weaning and everything to do with infant nutrition. I feel disapointed and mislead. I was hoping how to learn to wean my baby from breast feeding as she's now 1 year old

Not what I thought it was

I didn't finish it because I thought it would help with my 4 month old, but 2/3 of the first 2 chapters were about toddlers and little people.
