Publisher's summary

James Allen's From Poverty to Power (1901) and As a Man Thinketh (1902) stand as seminal texts in the self-help genre that have served as sources of inspiration since their publication at the beginning of the 20th century. Loosely based in its principles around the Biblical proverb "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he," As a Man Thinketh asserts the powerful idea that belief is central to bringing about positive events in one's life. From Poverty to Power, Allen's first book, relies on a similar philosophy but addresses themes of adversity and suffering more directly and offers his simple wisdom as a means of overcoming difficulty. Allen's writings are powerful and relevant today as they were over a century ago, and this collection brings their solace and inspiration to modern listeners.

Awesome insight on the phobia of rejection

This completely changed the way i look at sales calls, asking for favors and saying 'no'. This book is invaluable to anyone who struggles with procrastination because of fear of rejection.

Old school wording though relevant concepts

Obviously a brilliant and enlightened mind, especially for the time it was written. A bit heavy going at times with the old school wording and terminology, though the message is relevant today as much as ever.
Note: This is two books recorded back to back. I prefered the first (As a Man Thinketh).

great book bad performance

If you could sum up As a Man Thinketh and From Poverty to Power in three words, what would they be?

The narrator seemed to be racing to finish reading this great book. Unlistenable.

A beautiful way to end all perceived suffering

When the student is ready the teacher will appear. This book is a perfect example of that principle.

I have had such incredible personal breakthroughs while listening to this book. I highly recommend it to anyone that is called to read/ listen to the book.

From the bottom of my heart thank you to the author, the narrator and to Audible for giving me the opportunity to experience these teachings.

And most importantly thank you to God for giving me the fortitude to opportunity to expeience his grace.

May all beings find that peace of God that goes beyond all understanding.
