Anxiety is a feeling of extreme worry and apprehension that is out of proportion to whatever is really happening in that moment. Although everyone worries, people with anxiety disorders experience this feeling so often and with so much intensity that it interferes with their ability to function in life. Anxiety can make it difficult to have happy and healthy relationships, to pursue education or succeed in a career. It can also lead to depression and other problems.

If you have problems with anxiety, you might feel as if you are all alone and that no one else struggles with these feelings the way you do. In reality, anxiety disorders are very common. They affect around 12% of the population at any one time. Up to 30% of people will experience an anxiety problem at some point in their lives.

Anxiety can happen to anyone, but it is about twice as common in women as in men. People who experienced abuse or poverty in childhood are also especially likely to suffer from anxiety, as are those with a family history of mental health problems. Whatever the origins of your anxiety, you can get help for your problem. Anxiety disorders don't usually go away on their own, but they do respond to treatment by a skilled professional such as a therapist or mental health counselor.

There are several different anxiety disorders with different characteristics, including generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, agoraphobia and other phobias, panic disorder, selective mutism and so on. All of these disorders cause the symptoms of anxiety - including intense feelings of worry and fearfulness, shaking hands and an increased heartrate and blood pressure.

    If you are trying to deal with your anxiety, listen to this book. I have kept it and refer back to it often. It has helped me immensely day today with the things I do. I skipped over the "how the brain works" stuff and went straight to the specifics. Learned a lot.

    As an anxiety sufferer, this is the best book I have found and read on the subject. It goes into the physiological causes in understandable terms and gives very practical advice on coping strategies which are invaluable.

    This book is helpful for people who suffer anxiety. It offers several ways to head off panic attacks and deal with the cognitions that drive the anxiety. These exercises truly helped during a very complexed time in my life. This is a very easy read and easy to follow instructions.

    Actual practical advice. Do X and you will be less anxious. I wish more books were immediately applicable and effective like this. Many of the techniques or ways of thinking worked for me. I return to the book when I am feeling particularly anxious and I am always able to snap out of it.

    I don't know how much I can control my anxiety with lifestyle changes, but there is a clear process presented to identify issues that produce the highest anxiety and how you can develop steps of action IF these anxiety-producing events occur. Very helpful! I shared it with my family physician.

    "Super....Anxiety Relief....."

    Very good book. It explains what is happening in your brain. Then the author gives you tools you can use to counteract what your brain is (falsely) telling you and begin to reduce your anxiety levels. The more you practice the different tools, the greater benefit you will reap. You want to be very familiar with how a tool works before you try using it during an anxiety or panic attack.

    I run an anxiety group online and one in real life, and let me tell you, this book has good of great suggestions! I suggest to everyone that I know with anxiety to buy this book :) This should be called "One of the Ten Best-Ever Anxiety Books Ever Made!"

    I just started listening to this book and from the introduction, I knew it was gonna be great. It's got a ton of information and I can't wait to keep listening to it. If anyone has anxiety and wants an effective book with mechanisms. This is a great book.

    These aren't really quite single tips--more like a woven text on anxiety relief in general divided into sections. There is some useful information here but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it over any other "anxiety relief" self-help book.
