Depression, community, solitude

The best conversation about the topics I have ever been blessed to listen in on. If you live with depression, you will find at least one nugget in this conversation.

A remarkable, enriching work

This profound interview is inspiring—not in a simplistic, cheerleading way, but in a soulful and insightful way. The combination of the wise sage Parker Palmer with one of my favorite people, Sounds True Founder Tami Simon, makes for a compelling listening experience. I finished this recording in two days—it was that good. Parker and Tami, please record more interviews together!

Experience a life "divided no more"

I've not ever felt so grateful to be a fly on the wall in a room overhearing a conversation. In this room, the deepest and most generous wisdom that may have ever been spoken flows forth masterfully and effortlessly as if from a divine source through the being and gorgeous voice of Parker Palmer. In this talk he explains, or uncovers, the meaning of paradox, soul, Religion, community, courage, intention, social injustice...and many other things that are central to the human condition.

Simply put, if you listen, you will have absorbed a multitude of concepts and a deeper knowing with which you can and just might use to dramatically transform the way you see yourself, your soul, and the universe.

I am now seeking a way to keep the conversation going which Parker has boosted and intends to be the stuff of his legacy.

Beautiful, important, elegant, matterful.

A Western Sage Who Has Traveled to the Depths

I’ve never met Parker but his works consistently offer profound authenticity, integral wisdom, and a sense of the great journey embodied with pristine awareness. Tami Simon’s interview style — in contrast with many others in this milieu — also deserves high marks because she’s minimalist in her approach and really draws out the essence of the person with whom she is in discussion. The “Undivided Life” will remain a potent theme for years to come.

Listen to why we need "An Undivided Life"

I have read and reread Parker Palmer for several years. Only recently I decided to listen to his book, "An Undivided Life". I've read the book when it was first published in early 2000. Once again, I felt pulled to discern his wisdom and gave the book a listen.

How does a person become whole without having a "backstage" and a "front stage" persona? Mr. Palmer is non-judgemental. He is trying to help us capture who we really are and present that person to the world in everything we do. Some would say, "Oh yeah, I've heard that before." Others would say, "Been there...done that..." Or even, "It's impossible, if people knew who I really was no one would like me." We get buried in our reasons for not being whole.

I lived a very long time trying to be all things to all people. Of course, I knew I couldn't keep doing it, but as long as it lasted I kept it up. I suppose a lot of women fall into this trap. Mr. Palmer steps out of the shadows and tells us why we need to present a solid front. He is calm and supportive. I truly do believe I could listen to this again in another 10 years and find yet other parts of myself that need to be incorporated into the one.

So timely

We have needed this message and as the world unravels we need to take this message to heart. A good reminder to have hope and to go deep within so the soul can speak.
