Publisher's summary

Craig Beck is a well-regarded family man with two children, a nice home, and a successful media career; a director of several companies and at one time the trustee of a large children’s charity. Outwardly, Craig was a highly successful and functioning professional man in spite of a ‘two-bottles-of-wine-a-night" drinking habit.

For 20 years he struggled to control his drinking, all the time refusing to label himself an alcoholic because he didn't believe he met the stereotypical image that the word portrayed. He tried countless ways to cut down; attempting ‘dry months’, banning himself from drinking spirits, only drinking at the weekend and special occasions (and found that it is amazing how even the smallest of event can suddenly become ‘special’).

All these 'willpower' based attempts to stop drinking failed (exactly as they were destined to do). Slowly he discovered the truth about alcohol addiction and one by one all the lies he had previously believed started to fall apart. For the first time he noticed that he genuinely didn’t want to drink anymore. In this book he will lead you though the same amazing process.

Craig is known around the world as "The Stop Drinking Expert" and many thousands of people just like you have quit drinking using his method. This updated edition of the best-selling Alcohol Lied to Me is new for 2014.

No need to declare yourself an alcoholic. A permanent cure, not a lifetime struggle. No group meetings or expensive rehab. No humiliation, no pain, and 100% no ‘will power’ required. Treats the source of the problem not the symptoms.

This method worked for me

My nightly glasses of wine were beginning to cause me health issues, including high blood pressure and elevated liver enzymes. I've tried AA, but the desire for my beloved wine never went away. I had go to at least 4-5 meetings per week in order to keep my willpower strong enough to resist the urge. After 6 months, I walked into a restaurant to meet a well meaning friend for dinner, and she surprised me with a margarita, and boom, I was drinking again.
But after beginning this book, I found that I had no desire to drink at all. This book reprograms the subconscious, and explains why willpower alone does not succeed. I also downloaded the accompanying hypnosis audio and have been doing it 2-3 times per week. After 11 days, my blood pressure dropped from 151/100 to 127/89. I can't wait to take it again in another week.
I also listened to the book entitled The Naked Mind: Control Alcohol by Annie Grace and highly recommend that book as well.

Alcohol is an attractively packaged poison

STORY (self-help/motivational) - I used to just be a social drinker. Now I look forward to a glass of wine, sometimes two, most days after work. I've gained weight and feel guilty that I'm probably harming my health. I've made efforts to stop drinking during the week at home, but that bottle of wine always finds a way to jump off the shelf and into my shopping cart. If it doesn't, I just steal a couple beers from my hubby's weekend stash. NOT GOOD!!

This book is motivational, but it also has lots of scientific information. You will hear how alcohol is an ADDICTIVE DRUG that would not obtain an FDA approval of safety if it were introduced today. It has become socially acceptable, almost necessary. We have been brainwashed by the alcohol industry into thinking it makes us more relaxed, more confident, more fun, more sexy and that we are SUPPOSED TO DRINK at social occasions. You will hear the words in my headline over and over during this book, and you will hear why ALL drinkers are playing Russian roulette with potential addiction. Bottom line is we all need to see it for what it is and stop drinking.

Mr. Beck lays out a multi-prong attack for stopping consumption of this poison. It involves understanding the harm alcohol does to your body and its addictive properties. He suggests ways to change how you look at alcohol (including listening to a recording on his website which reprograms your subconscious mind). He also suggests the reader purchase a few supplements, which makes perfect sense when you understand why you need them. He suggests a few "new age" techniques which he admits may sound far-fetched to more traditional thinkers (myself included), but I plan to at least give them a try. I want to stop gaining weight, sleep better and stop doing harm to my body with this poison.

PERFORMANCE - The writer is a great motivational speaker and does a good job reading his own work. He has a pleasant British accent.

OVERALL - If you regularly consume alcohol and want to learn why you should stop drinking and how to do it, this book just might be what you're looking for.

Review coming to you on my 30th day sober!

I woke up with a pounding headache from too much booze the night previous. I had stabbing pain in my temple and my kids were getting on my last nerve. I sat at the kitchen counter poking around on the internet and miraculously stumbled upon Craig Beck's videos. For whatever reason, divine intervention, a miracle, I listened to one of his vids about getting sober. Then another. Another. Another.

I went to Amazon to check out his books and saw this audible. I downloaded and listened straight thru. Then I downloaded his MP3 and I started doing that at night (I never make it to the end but I know the brain can absorb lots while sleeping).

I have been drinking since 20 and I'm now 53, and I don't know what else to say, but I feel like my kids are so lucky that I found Craig Beck 30 days ago. They just don't know it yet! I can't believe how great it feels to not even think about my "Vino". I saved at least $160 this month (expensive to drink in my state, where the religious tax tax tax the booze). My 40 per week habit has been cured!

Not even really sure how it was this easy, but no more of the perfectly packaged poison for me. I made it thru Thanksgiving, a company Christmas party (with free drinks), a friendly gathering of drunk friends, and I never once thought "gosh I wish I could have that". It just didn't matter to me.

Thank you Craig, thank you thank you thank YOU!!!

If Alcohol Is A Concern Then You Need This Book!

Would you listen to Alcohol Lied to Me - New Edition again? Why?

I am currently up to my third listen and have picked up even more with each listen. Using a combination of his own story and a generous amount of fact Craig really makes you reconsider your long held opinions of alcohol.

Considering that I have listened to other audiobooks and read other books on alcohol I thought this may just be a refresher. Boy was I wrong! With Craig's wonderful story telling ability this is a great listen for anyone who is considering their options with alcohol.

As someone who has been alcohol free for nearly 6 months at the time of writing it would have been great to have had this book prior to embarking on my journey of sobriety. He has really opened my eyes to what I am truly capable of without alcohol especially in social situations.

I am now extremely keen to check out some of Craig's other works.

I give Alcohol Lied To Me 2 bigs thumbs up!

Kick the drink by Jason Vale is better

This book is more about Craig’s journey about quitting alcohol. While still a good and inspiring story, I would recommend Kick the drink over this one as it contains many more reasons why alcohol is useless to you and just generally more informative.

I finally understand my addiction!

Would you consider the audio edition of Alcohol Lied to Me - New Edition to be better than the print version?

I think the audible gives the correct emphasis on the points Craig is making. He's obviously a gifted speaker and his talents really help drive home his beliefs.

Who was your favorite character and why?

ME! Because almost every anecdote describes the lies and frustration I've lived with.

Which character – as performed by Craig Beck – was your favorite?

So much of the story was his own personal journey, so as such it really is an autobiography.

What did you learn from Alcohol Lied to Me - New Edition that you would use in your daily life?

That's what's so great. The basic principle that there is no good reason or need to ingest alcohol. It's been ingrained in our belief systems since we were children and its a tremendous money making industry. I will not be influenced by the drug pushers of alcohol any longer.

Any additional comments?

Craig, thanks for creating such a great program.
Everything you present resonates with me.
I stopped drinking for 7+ weeks and wanted to try drinking in moderation.
Not good. Felt sh..tty and guilty about not advising my wife I resumed my test to see if I could drink and she caught me in a lie. I really felt like a failure.

You’ve given me a simple, logical explanation to why drinking has become such a problem this last couple years.
I’ve dealt with back pain that got worse and worse. Found this great “Band-Aid” in using Opioids. And, of course, alcohol needed to be part of the treatment as it took the edge off!
What a downward spiral that led to! I was a mess and it became evident to others.
So, I got medical counseling, quit the drugs cold turkey and have been getting new orthopedic treatments to physically heal my back.
I have needed Tramadol in the interim. But the ‘kick’ happens, so, naturally, I assumed my old friend, alcohol would help!
But the alcohol, which took the edge off temporarily only contributed to my screwed up thinking.

I did not understand what was happening until I got your book.
I realize I’ve been a contributor to the great alcohol conspiracy most of my life and its really taken its toll.
Not so much financially, but had all the symptoms you describe and yes, I wasted hundreds-- or thousands- of hours and have risked losing the respect of my sons.
Planning my day around where and when I could drink, vacations that would allow me to indulge and embarrassing myself at times because I thought I was so funny and smart. What an ass!
Thank God I found your program. I get it. On the day I started the book, I embraced your approach and now am able I look at alcohol in a new light.

With dedication to my new understanding, I’m convinced I can quit. Not like a smoker who stops smoking but with one cigarette is soon back chain smoking, but a smoker (like I was in my teens) who finds the habit was bad news-- and quit! I could smoke a cigarette (but have no desire) and would never want another.
I believe your plan teaches the same thing. Stopping drinking is not going to work. Realizing its disgusting and destructive that quitting is the real solution. This will become the new normal for me. Others may discover it also, I hope. I believe I will be someone who, if literally forced to drink some alcohol, I would be nauseated and have no desire to go back to it. That’s what quitting is.

I’m excited and look forward to being off all drugs, especially alcohol.
You’re right, I can’t preach about it, only share it with others who want help and can relate to some close friends who have been able to quit.
Thanks for your direct approach, your eloquent delivery and the clarity your observations deliver.

I was a frequent public speaker and now feel there is going to be an opportunity to get back on the podium again.

Warm Regards,
John V
