Very short and fast

They cram a lot in and don't go into elaborate detail. I think this will do well for people who have a grasp of the accent and need a refresher than those, like me, who are learning it like a foreign language... Accents don't come easy to me but I think once I grasp it, this will be of more help.

Basic, Helpful

There's an accompanying pamphlet to this (I wish audible had it on this page) but I found it at http://www.pulpgamer.com (mentioned in the beginning of this audio)

I have to take notes eg. don't pronounce the r's unless it's before a vowel, something like that--I have to rewind and write these tips down

Ok. Not as much direction as the books by Paul Meier

I thought that this book would be a version close to the Accent and Dialogue Book.

Worth the price but don't expect actual training

Paul Meier riffs on Received Pronunciation or Standard British English, up and down the scales from Cockney to the King, and demonstrates nuances of class, profession, and fictional style. There are some good tips here about using different variations for historical and fantasy characters.

It's a fun listen, well worth the low price, and I think frequent re-listening might instill a bit of the rhythm and character of the dialect in an American speaker. But there are no exercises here, nothing to actually guide an actor or storyteller in developing this dialect. Don't mistake this for language training or coaching. It's not. That, you have to pay a lot more for.

An interesting listen

This book really helped me to pursue my love of British Accents and how to accurately portray them.

Fun!

I actually learned my English from South Africa, so I use this short CD to correct accent, for under $3.00, this is very much fun, I only wish it it longer.

I was hoping to get more tips...

on how to use this accent but instead I got more of a jumble of story bits and maybe one or two useful tips. Perhaps I'll see what's on his website so I can find more help. If not, I know a great dialect coach who has reasonable fees.

Felt ripped off.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I didn't hear a single lesson in this book. It was great hearing how talented the author is - and he is quite talented. But this book is nothing but an "audition tape" showing you how good he is.

What could Paul Meier have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Unless it came very late in the audio - there was no training to speak of. Just listening to this very talented individual show off his own talents.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

He wasn't training anyone that I could find. But perhaps it came in one of the later CDs. I gave up on it and didn't finish it since after two CDs he still hadn't given a single lesson.

What character would you cut from Accent Your Character - Standard British English?

The author.

Thought it was longer

I was enjoying it I probably should’ve looked at the time but it just seems way too short for one credit good listen I was hoping to learn more
