Publisher's summary

Just three seconds. The time it takes to make a decision. That's all that lies between settling for "Whatever"...or insisting on "Whatever it takes."

3 Seconds shows how to unleash the inner resources that can move you to a whole new level of success. It comes down to six predictable impulses that most of us automatically accept without a second thought. You can replace them with new impulses that lead toward impact and significance.

For instance, it takes three seconds to...

  • Disown your helplessness - The First Impulse: "There's nothing I can do about it." The Second Impulse: "I can't do everything, but I can do something."
  • Quit stewing and start doing - The First Impulse: "Someday I’m going to do that." The Second Impulse: "I'm diving in...starting today."
  • Fuel your passion - The First Impulse: "I'll do what happens to come my way." The Second Impulse: "I'll do what I'm designed to do."

Inhale...exhale...the difference of your lifetime can begin in the space of a single breath. The decision is yours. Start today.

Insightful

I enjoyed Dr. Parrott's insights in this book. He See's clearly between the lines and describes a vision of how to live a better, more elevated life. Great to listen to.

Great stories

Lots of content filled with anecdotal stories. Would have been good if it also included referenced evidence and statistics.
Excellent narrator that engages with the content.

The chapters are:
1. The power of thinking twice
2. It takes 3 sec to embrace a good challenge
3. It takes 3 sec to fuel your passion
4. It takes 3 sec to own your piece of the pie
5. It takes 3 sec to walk the extra mile
6. It takes 3 sec to quit stewing and start doing
Conclusion - how to make your second impulse second nature

Listen to it several times

Dr. Parrott's narration is great, very nice voice and inflection.

I have this on my iPod and have listened to this book several times over the last year. It helps to be reminded to take 3 seconds to refocus your thoughts.

Shameless cliche

This is a smug and lazily put together series of
anecdotes and examples to support the idea of " 3 seconds " for which no intelligent analysis is offered. A book turned out among many by this author who apparently wants to sell his ideas in a very tired and formulaic way , with little insight added . A cheap excuse for real quality.
