Not too soft not too hard: Just right

I’ve downloaded the top 10 parenting books and been listening through them trying to figure out what to do about my 4 year old. Some books seem way too permissive and tell the parent to get down low and submissive like you’re dealing with an aggressive dog. Other books say just don’t feed them when they don’t obey the first time you say something. This feels just right. A clear consistent way to set boundaries in a clear and consistent way. I’ve ordered the workbook and the kids book.

A good balance of love, care and authority.

Authority against unwanted behavior like arguing over toys and bantering. Positive reinforcement for wanted behavior like cleaning their room and doing homework. Followed up with the importance of relation building and parents not unnecessary complaining or yelling I think this is a very well balanced book.

Help for parents

This book was recommended by our pediatrician. It is a simple set of guidelines to help with discipline, and to help with encouraging specific behaviors.

Could not fully relate

Although there was a lot uf useful information that I could price together and use for my family, most of the scenarios were not relatable to my family's dynamics.

Sounds great. Let's see if it works

There's a lot in this book to like. Not least of which being that this is an experienced professional and not just some nobody with an opinion and a book deal. He definitely identifies the right behavior problems. Granted, that's the easy part but it's a promising start. Next is how to address the problems. I can't know for sure if his method is effective until I try it, but there are some examples where we're already doing something similar with successful results, which gives me hope for the other parts too. Crossing my fingers.
