Publisher's Summary

The second novel in the Virals trilogy from the number-one best-selling author and inspiration for the TV series Bones - Kathy Reichs!

Ever since Tory Brennan and her friends rescued Cooper, a kidnapped wolf pup with a rare strain of canine parvovirus, they've turned from regular kids into a crime-solving pack! But now the very place that brought them together - the Loggerhead Island Research Institute - is out of funding and will have to shut down. That is, unless the Virals can figure out a way to save it!

So when Tory learns of an old Charleston legend about a famous she-pirate, Anne Bonney, whose fortune was never found, she can't believe her luck - buried treasure is exactly what she needs to save the Institute on Loggerhead! Trouble is, she and her friends aren't the only ones looking for it. And this time, the Virals' special powers may not be enough to dig them out of trouble.

Definitely YA

Any additional comments?

I thoroughly enjoyed Virals. However, Seizure was not near as interesting. There was more find-the-pirate-treasure "adventure" with only bits and pieces of the core storyline--- the abilities of the Virals. This is another one of those series in which the author seems as interested in stretching out the series as she does in developing characters and moving the plot along. I have stopped and started this one several times while reading other novels in between. I want to finish it, but I'm struggling to stay interested.

Also, I am a high school English teacher, so I frequently preview YA books for my class. I was fascinated with Hunger Games and just as impressed with Divergent. I thought this series may be along those lines, but I can imagine readers losing interest halfway through this one.

Fabulous!

I don’t know why I didn’t discover this YA series sooner!! While I knew the kids would find the treasure, Reichs put in so many twists and turns that it kept me listening just to figure out HOW they would discover it. I’m on to the next book in the series.

Amazing new series

Absolutely wonderful! It's a fun read, it always kept my attention and I never got bored. The audio performance is also done in a fun way, she changed her voice for the characters and makes it fun.

Better

This one is definitely a more cohesive story. Unlike Book 1, it doesn't read like a series of "...and then..." statements. Although, I still feel like the inclusion of "powers" is an excuse to appeal to the sci fi/fantasy crowd. I can see this story being told without the characters enhanced abilities and being just as effective.

This was my favorite book in the series.

What did you love best about Seizure?

I loved the history in it and the pirate aspect. This is probably why I liked it best out of all of the books.

Any additional comments?

I love this series and each character in the book takes on a life of its own thanks to the great narrator. I couldn't wait to start listening again when I was forced to turn it off. This book kept me enthralled from start to finish.

I am not in the target audience for this book but i found it great. Start at the first book "Virals". I finished this book in one setting.
