Story
Disgraced crime reporter Aloa Snow is scrambling to get her life back on track by doing what she does best: investigating hard-to-solve cases. But the latest one is personal. The son of her friend Tick - aging anarchist, confidant, and unofficial colleague - has been accused of a high-profile murder. The victim is Corrine Daniels, ex-prosecutor and wife of a heroic but now-paralyzed FBI interrogator. Corrine had enemies, but she also had a secret lover in Tick’s son, who, without an alibi, is now directly in the cops’ crosshairs.

Story
Two decades ago Marissa Mo escaped a basement prison - the only home she’d ever known. At twenty-seven, Marissa’s moved beyond the trauma and is working under a new name as a freelance photographer. But when she accepts a job covering a string of macabre murders in Portland, it’s impossible for Marissa not to remember. Everything is eerily familiar. The same underground lairs. Sad trinkets and toys left behind, identical to those Marissa had as a child. And then there is the note meant just for her that freezes Marissa’s blood: See you soon, Missy.

But Georgia Davis - former cop and newly-minted PI - is hired to look into the incident at the behest of the accused's sister, and what she finds hints at a much different, much darker answer. A former reporter for the Los Angeles Times, Aloa Snow knows what it means to be down and out. Once highly respected, she’s now blackballed, in debt, and dealing with the echoes of an eating disorder. Until she gets one more shot to prove that she has what it takes - with a story some would die for...
After the body of a promising young athlete, Hayley Poole, is recovered in the Nevada desert, authorities rule it a suicide. But when Aloa discovers that the girl’s boyfriend died in a similar accident only months before, her investigative instincts are on high alert. It turns out the girl was on the run from secrets that could kill.

Oh, this is bad...
First the narrator is so dramatic, not in a good way, breathless, with a rhythm that chops up continuity. Typical female doing male voices, unlike any real man you've ever heard, very distracting. Totally ruins the book. Last the story is all over the place, just in the first 2 chapters. Thats as far as I could make it. I hate doing bad reviews but if an author is taking the time to write a book, they should pay as much attention to the one presenting it. A great narrator can sometimes make a bad novel bearable but a bad one just ruins either.

It was good
I did like the story but unfortunately I really didn't care to much of the narrator's telling the story. It did kept my interest I was very surprised with the ending.
