Publisher's Summary

For ages, it seems, advice columnist Annabelle Swift has loved Derek Knightly, editor-owner of the London Weekly, from a distance. Determined to finally attract her boss's attention, she seeks advice from her loyal readers, who offer Annabelle myriad suggestions, from lower-cut bodices (success!) and sultry gazes (disaster!) to a surprise midnight rendezvous (wicked!). Derek never really took note of his shy, wallflower lady writer. But suddenly she's exquisite, and he can't get Annabelle out of his mind! She must be pursuing someone, but who? For some inexplicable reason, the thought of her with another man makes Knightly insanely jealous.

Rodale Saved the Best for Last!

I liked the series. Nothing serious or stressful. Lighthearted stories with likable, engaging characters and men who actually fell in love versus fighting off the grand emotions. There was also an infusion of humor which I enjoy. New characters are developed in each book of the series and the old ones continue to be involved. Always a plus in my mind. This last book (which I didn't anticipate being too exciting based on what I knew of the characters) was a sweet, delightful story. The best of the four! I ended up listening twice just because I enjoyed it so much. I also really like this narrator, she can do both male and female voices as well as a range of emotions quite effortlessly. I was very happy with the purchase of this series!

The last of the great writing girls novels.

I loved it. I have listened to every single one of the Maya Rodale books available in audible. I have enjoyed each and every one of them...More than once! This one lived up to my expectations. I had delayed in listening to this last writing girls book, I was afraid Mr Knightley and Annabelles story may not live up to the rest of them. I was wrong. This book in all actuality brought it all together. wWe learn more about the newspaper trade which gave us the creation of the writing girls. And with that the beginning of the fight for free speach.... And let's not forget about true love....

NARRATOR : All good, nothing negative.... I enjoy and respect the performances of Carolyn Morris.

CREDITWORTHY? YES

HEAT FACTOR: With a single sweet sex scene I cannot even rate this one. There was tension.... but no... not even steam.

Brilliant end to a delightful series!

I have thoroughly enjoyed the Writing Girls series by Maya Rodale, narrarated by Carolyn Morris! This conclusion features all the things you'll love about the series: whitty writing, clever, intelligent and independant women; rogues, rakes and even a nodcock; unrequited love and a big, red bow at the end!

As with most audio books, narration can make or break a book and in this case, Carolyn brings the vibrant, funny and creative story to life with her seemless transition to characters, her ability to capture at least 10 different characters without skipping a beat and each having their own sense of identity. She really is a gem.

I highly recommend this book and this series, and this author....and this narrarator! Worth the credits all day long!

Maybe the most amusing "working girls" story

Throughout the series, we have known Annabelle as the shy little spinster who sighs every time that her boss Derek Knightly walks into the room. But mousy little Annabelle seems the least likely candidate to win the hard-driving editor who loves nothing but the paper he owns, until...she comes upon the idea to ask her readers for advice in how to win the love of her dreams. As she practices the increasingly daring suggestions sent in by her readers on how to win the "nodcock" (a name given to her lover by her readers) who overlooks her, "old Annabelle" begins to become "New Annabelle," with lowered necklines and suitors vying for her affections, and new Annabelle is daring, funny and charming. And all of England loves "Dear Annabelle." Inevitably, Mr. Knightly begins to "see" Annabelle, and he likes what he sees. Meanwhile, an unhappy member of Parliament has begun a war on newspapers to clean up the way that they research their stories and stir up gossip. The war on newspapers and Annabelle's campaign to win over the nodcock become intertwined as Mr. Knightly fights to protect his newspaper, and all newspapers, and to win Annabelle at the same time. sigh.

Outstanding!

Any additional comments?

I hate it when I start a series with the last book. But this one is so fun and entertaining I will go back and start over from the first. Wonderful romance, driven and real characters. Frustrating relatives, good friends and political intrigue make a well developed story. What goes around comes around and this story takes you full circle. Loved the trip and the final destination. What fun!

Cute but Repetitive

This is my first Maya Rodale, and it might be my last. This book could have been half the length if the narrator had cut out all the restating *in the exact same language* of the facts. It's not like the dramatics are rocket science, or that we're going to love sight of the situation. I swear if I heard the words "lowered bodice" one more time... This is sad bc it was a cute story with some fun side characters, a good setting, the newspaper scandal was a nice intrigue. Could have been an even better story with out all the repetition which was rather off-putting at times.

Dear Listener,

This was a bubbly, delightful listen that I looked forward to each day. My first Maya Rodale novel, but definitely not my last. Annabelle walked the line between adorable and tragic, but her sweet optimism and tendency to find herself in embarrassing situations had me rooting for her from the first chapter. Knightly lives up to his name - a knight in tarnished armor, but every bit as enjoyable to follow as the heroine. As always, Carolyn Morris kept the story moving with strong characterization and lovely voice. Off to download the whole series!

Good, But Hot Dam in Steaminess It Is NOT

If you are looking for Hot Dam in steaminess, this is not the book. I think this rating was wrong. However, I enjoyed the humor, the wit and the amount of dialogue. Annabelle was too wimpy for me. Still the story line was good. I was hoping that Annabelle would have taken her sister-in-law down towards the end.

Carolyn Morris is very good.

Another good Writing Girl story

This was another good writing girl story. I liked the hero, and the heroine was a bit too shy for my tastes but still likable since she was trying to come out of that "unnoticed" persona. There was a bit of repetitive thoughts I felt were too much of a filler.

But the story was still good. There was sexual tension, chemistry and one nicely written sex scene. There was enough dialogue too.

All HEA's for the Writing Girls of the London Weekly

The narrator did a great job, the men sounded like men and the rest of the characters had their own distinct voice,. Good job Ms. Morris on a very good narration.
