Kept me guessing! 18+ read

This started out as a cozy mystery with a bit of a paranormal element to it. I don't want to give anything away so I will keep this review brief. Overall this was a fantastic mystery with an enough twists, turns and an ending that I was completely surprised by. The narrator did a great job and was easy to listen to. My only warning is that this was really an 18+ read due to the sexual content. There was only some minor language (no f-bombs) but there was a lot of foreplay in terms of reactions of the character's nether regions, some gropping, before and after bedroom scenes and some nudity, it wasn't overly descriptive but was prevalent enough to be in the PG13-R movie rating. That being said it was an awesome and very entertaining mystery that any adult cozy mystery fan will thoroughly enjoy.

Entertaining

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

This is a very cute cozy - but I would say it is more romance than mystery. I really enjoyed the MC Tizzy -- she was sassy, humorous, and independent. It is set in a small town - full of secrets/gossip. The story moved along at a good pace. Overall, I found it to be entertaining.

The narrator, Sandra W. Parker, did a very nice job. Each of the characters having a distinctive voice and most with a southern accent.

Fun romance with a mystery

Fun story with romance and mystery and just enough quirkiness. The Texas ranger instead of the nosy neighbor was a great change from other mystery/fun/romances. If you like a fun romantic mystery you'll enjoy this book.

A Surprisingly Good Cozy Mystery

This story was full of surprises. It didn’t have a snoopy, female sleuth: It had a genuine Texas Ranger running the show. I was expecting this to be a regular old cozy mystery, but this was more like a mystery romance. I loved all of the characters and I’m definitely interested in seeing where the next few books in the series will take me. The narrator was great with voices, but often sounded a bit robotic; kind of like she was reciting something she had memorized. But, that didn’t detract too much from the fun of listening to this book. I’ll be back to Texas soon to find out what else happens in this crazy little town.

sweet and southern

A great cozy mystery - more romance than mystery but I think that made me enjoy it even more. I loved Tizzy and her quirky ability to hear the dead as well as her and Trooper Coopers sweet rhyming names. I loved the twists and turns as well as all the secrets that come out about the players in town while trying to solve this murder mystery. Great story line and good flow - the narrator had some spots that sounded choppy but that's really my only critic. Sweet, southern and smooth this romance, mystery read is a win for me!

Intriguing mystery

Secrets, Lies, and Homemade Pies is an intriguing mystery mixed with a little bit of the paranormal. This is my first book by Emma Ames and I think she did a fabulous job with the characters and the storyline. I loved the little twist and turns they kept me on my feet wanting more. Sandra W. Parker did a fantastic job with her narration. I highly recommend this book. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I received this audio book at my request. Fun!

texas, law-enforcement, supernatural, murder-investigation, cozy-mystery, situational-humor, verbal-humor

If you like sassy Texas romance with a side order of murder, you'll love this one! The good looking Ranger from Pennsylvania is assigned to a small town when an odd murder comes to light. The smart and sassy widow who talks to ghosts is not only the one who finds the body in the town graveyard, but also has a negative history with the victim. Of course everyone in town really dislikes the victim and likes the young widow. A good story!
Narrator Sandra W Parker has the Texas down right and has a great delivery.

Murder and romance

I loved this novel from start to finish, it was so much fun. It was obvious where the romance section was going from the beginning, but the murder mystery kept me guessing.
The narrator fitted in perfectly with the story and really brought the characters to life.
Overall, this was a light fun chick-lit style book, but I would definitely read/listen to another by this author.

Loved it

A very entertaining mystery with lots of suspense and humour. The mystery kept me guessing until the end.I liked the characters although the romance was a little too quick for my liking. I look forward to reading more of the series.

A sweet cozy

I did enjoy this cozy but thought it was more of a romance story than a mystery because the murder for me got lost in the relationship between the two main characters. There was a number of suspects and I did like the characters but thought Tizzy was a strong independent women at the start, very sassy and fun but by the end she had turned in to helpless female in love. Not sure why she was talking to the ghosts in the graveyard and thought the author could have made more of that with the ghost playing a part in the solving of the case instead of just shouting at her.
Widowed mum Tizzy is out jogging at the local cemetery when she stumbles over a body. To make matter worse the dead women is her sister-in-law the woman Tizzy a had a big argument with only hours before, the woman who had always thought Tizzy wasn't good enough for her brother. As this is the first murder case the small town has seen Texas Ranger Ridge Cooper is called in to help solve the crime before Tizzy is arrested.
The narrator was very American but was easy to listen to.
