Story
"The Murder on the Links" is a work of detective fiction by Agatha Christie, first published in the UK by The Bodley Head in May 1923, and in the US by Dodd, Mead and Co in the same year. It features Hercule Poirot and Arthur Hastings. The story takes place in northern France, giving Poirot a hostile competitor from the Paris Sûreté. Poirot's long memory for past or similar crimes proves useful in resolving the crimes. The book is notable for a subplot in which Hastings falls in love, a development "greatly desired on Agatha's part.

Hercule Poirot made his first public appearance in 1920 at the age, one guesses, of about 60. He finally breathed his metaphorical last in 1975 at the age of maybe 75 or 80. And in that short span of time — either 55 years or about 20, depending on how you count it — Poirot became one of England’s most profitable and ubiquitous export commodities.

A blinding snowstorm - and a homicidal maniac - traps a small party of friends in an isolated estate. Out of this deceptively simple setup, Agatha Christie fashioned one of her most ingenious puzzlers, which in turn would provide the basis for The Mousetrap, the longest-running play in history. From this classic title novella to the deliciously clever gems on its tail (solved to perfection by Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple), this rare collection of murder most foul showcases Christie at her inventive best.

Terrible Reader Completely Ruined the Experience
The reader on this audiobook was absolutely awful- I know the story, and even though I was looking forward to hearing it I had to end it after about 5 minutes. The reader limped through the lines as though he was reading text for the first time, reading word for word, minimal expression, stumbling over longer words, halting delivery and dead space while I guess he was trying to pronounce a word. I have never before heard such a dismal delivery of an audible book.

Absolutely terrible sound
I expect a certain standard of recording from Audible. this story sounds like it was recorded from the back of the narrator's bathroom where sound can get lost and distorted. Terrible audio quality. Silly me for thinking it was a bargain. cheap is the word. I shall be getting a refund. please up your game Audible and be more discerning with audio quality. Shame on you! I was forced to put a star for story but as you've guessed didn't listen to it to make a comment on that.

I got as far as chapter 3 and had to abandon this liar of rubbish, I it hope will be reviewed by Audible. Why on earth is there music all the way through? Very distracting. The narrator is terrible and sounds as though he is in an echo chamber. I will now go to the library and read the original book.

Not the best version
I was disappointed in this version. The reader sounds intoxicated, and hesitates over words and phrases. The constant tinkle of Musak in the background is distracting, and intrudes on the spoken word. I love Agatha Christie’s work, and would not recommend this to new listeners.

This is dreadful. Do not buy it under any circumstances. The narrator is awful and can barely read the text with the correct grammar and it has irritating tinkling music from the beginning all the way through. It only cost me £2.15 but I will be asking for my money back.

Dreadful! But not the material........
Sadly, I only managed approximately twenty minutes of this audio book and was forced to give up. Despite it being and early work by Agatha Christie and understanding it was not likely to be as polished as her other works, having never come across it, I was intrigued and ready to give this a go. However, it was not the author that gave me a problem, but the dreadful narrator! I am afraid to say that the American gentleman attempting to narrate this book has the most irritating voice and unfortunately completely lacks any ability to read a story to an audience. I cannot believe this book is even part of the Audible output. I genuinely have never come across such a poor performance and was hugely disappointed. It sounds as though it was recorded at home by an elderly fan and certainly not by an actor. My advice here would be; don't waste your credit or your money and avoid this version. If you are interested in the work itself, seek out a printed copy of the book and read it yourself. Sorry to be so down on it and I hate to leave negative feedback, but I think it worth saying this time. Audible, this lets you down. In order to post the review of this product, I was forced to give it one star in every category.....it really should not have received any for performance or overall.

Worst narrative ever
I managed to listen to the end as I wanted to give a proper review. The narrator seems to be unable to pronounce his words most of time and you want to help him out! Then it will rush at the beginning of the next chapter. The background music is there to distract you from the awful narration and then finish, well that’s the cherry on the top. Don’t buy anything this chap narrates as he ruins the story

This book is by far the worst quality book I have ever purchased on audible by quite some distance. An introduction basically telling the listener that the book isn’t very good followed by the worse sound quality and narration I have ever heard, I actually thought it was some kind of joke! Shockingly naff piano music in the background makes matters even worse, avoid this book at all costs!

Music in the background
I love any and all Agatha Christie but I have had to return this audio book due to the annoying, unnecessary, distracting music in the background. Why would anyone think this is acceptable? Dreadful. Also I do not need an ‘introduction’. I’m quite capable of making my own mind up. That was patronising and condescending. I’m off to buy the book to read.
