A gritty look at second marriage from someone who has been there

Finally, a marriage book from someone who has been there. The author has been through hard times. Other marriage books focus on the silly “who left the toilet seat up” arguments as if those are the biggest issues a marriage will have. She acknowledges that some things are make or break for marriages and even that the first two years can be the hardest for couples. This is very different from other marriage books, especially Christian ones. The religious base is very well done, she shares her faith in a non-preachy way and offers practical advice that sounds like it comes from experts not just self-proclaimed “biblical counselors”. Non-Christians and Christians alike will get something out of this book.
Criticism would be that I wanted more. More stories to relate to the topic and more advise on how to handle issues. It seemed to just gloss the surface of topics before going into the exorcises from the workbook that apparently is supposed to accompany the book. The good news is, that, unlike some other books in this genre, the workbook is free, and she does not spend half the time trying to sell it. The narrator seemed a bit detached and her reading style was a bit monotone for my taste. Overall, I was happy with this book.

The author examines everything from why marriages breaks down. I appreciated the stories, studies, and life lessons the author included. The book was positive and encouraging. It also gave genuine advice on how to navigate marriage.
