Publisher's Summary

Those wicked wizards are at it again! This time they are draining power from the Enchanted Forest. And that does not sit well with Mendanbar the King. On the advice of the witch Morwen, Mendanbar decides to consult with Kazul, the King of Dragons. When he arrives at Kazul's cave, he meets Princess Cimorene and learns that Kazul has been captured by those horrible wizards. Mendanbar and Cimorene will have to search for him, traveling over mountains and past man-eating giants, terrifying rock snakes, and an assortment of magic-wielders.

Terrifyingly bad supporting cast

The main actors are mediocre, but the supporting voice cast is God-awful. Telemain sounds like a drunken clown. It is one of the worst voice renditions I have ever heard. It is impossible to listen to. Avoid.

Great!

This is a story I have loved it since childhood! Everything was fantastic, and I loved that there was a full cast. Telemanns voice was a little doofy though, and I couldn't get over the comical nature of it. Besides that; I would absolutely recommend this book and narration!!

Wonderfully funny title

Patricia C. Wrede's Enchanted Forest Chronicles are an incredibly fun series. I love her wit, and the way she throws so many references to canonical fairytales into her writing in such an off-hand way. The characters that she has created with Mendanbar, Cimorene, and Kazul, not to mention Telemain, Morwen, and the cats, are some of the funniest and pleasantest that I have encountered in children's literautre.
I'm not a huge fan of full cast narrations as quite often they can be rather cheesy. In this case, however, the cast was wonderful. My only complaint is that not all of the character’s voices are the same from book to book. In some cases, this may not be a huge change, but in others (Cimorene and Kazul, for instance) it is very noticeable. Still, they all do an excellent job. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a light, humorous read - especially if you like fantasy or fairytales.

One bad voice

Any additional comments?

The voice of the character Telemane nearly ruined the audiobook. Unlike most odd voices I found this one got more annoying the longer I listened, rather than becoming used to it. Other than that the performance and story were just as good as the first book.

It's like a radio play!

I loved the first audio book when I was a kid and it has most of the same cast as that one! I had no idea they did the sequels too and I'm so glad that they did. Having a full voice cast makes it feel like a radio play and it shows how much love and care went into these productions.

A childhood favorite!

A childhood favorite! Cimerene pretty much shaped who I am today. And the performance of this narration was brilliant.

Great story

Wonderful story but an awful performance. The cast obviously tried very hard but came off kitschy. Like a really bad panto. Not worth it - read the book if you can!

The magician is too annoying

The magician has already been written to be rather annoying in his language and personality. Making his voice actor the same gives a result where I have to take breaks from the book. He has effectively put me off any of the other books if he is mentioned as a recurring character.

Great story

I absolutely love this story! I am thrilled at how it continued along so well with the first book. I was, however, a bit disappointed that several of the original voices are different. I was particularly distressed over the changes in Kazul and Morwyn. Morwyn sounds like a young princess now instead of a middle aged woman and Kazul has no dragon rasp. Otherwise it was wonderful.

Perfect

I have always enjoyed this series and listening to it brought to life by a full cast is amazing. This is one of my favorite audio book series.
