Publisher's Summary

Those wicked wizards are at it again! This time they are draining power from the Enchanted Forest. And that does not sit well with Mendanbar the King. On the advice of the witch Morwen, Mendanbar decides to consult with Kazul, the King of Dragons. When he arrives at Kazul's cave, he meets Princess Cimorene and learns that Kazul has been captured by those horrible wizards. Mendanbar and Cimorene will have to search for him, traveling over mountains and past man-eating giants, terrifying rock snakes, and an assortment of magic-wielders.

Great!

This is a story I have loved it since childhood! Everything was fantastic, and I loved that there was a full cast. Telemanns voice was a little doofy though, and I couldn't get over the comical nature of it. Besides that; I would absolutely recommend this book and narration!!

One bad voice

Any additional comments?

The voice of the character Telemane nearly ruined the audiobook. Unlike most odd voices I found this one got more annoying the longer I listened, rather than becoming used to it. Other than that the performance and story were just as good as the first book.

Wonderfully funny title

Patricia C. Wrede's Enchanted Forest Chronicles are an incredibly fun series. I love her wit, and the way she throws so many references to canonical fairytales into her writing in such an off-hand way. The characters that she has created with Mendanbar, Cimorene, and Kazul, not to mention Telemain, Morwen, and the cats, are some of the funniest and pleasantest that I have encountered in children's literautre.
I'm not a huge fan of full cast narrations as quite often they can be rather cheesy. In this case, however, the cast was wonderful. My only complaint is that not all of the character’s voices are the same from book to book. In some cases, this may not be a huge change, but in others (Cimorene and Kazul, for instance) it is very noticeable. Still, they all do an excellent job. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a light, humorous read - especially if you like fantasy or fairytales.

Great story

Wonderful story but an awful performance. The cast obviously tried very hard but came off kitschy. Like a really bad panto. Not worth it - read the book if you can!

childhood favorite

I first read this in middle school and loved it. This audio version was great overall. My only complaint was the voice actor for telemaine - I thought the actor sounded too young for the character. other than that, awesome production and I'm pleased overall

A Family Favorite

The lighthearted story and lively cast performance made this a hit with our daughters, from age six to nine. They have both listened to this audiobook series multiple times.

A great classic fantasy story

The performances are great apart from one. Telemaine sounds like a 1980’s stereotype of an annoying nerd— it’s excruciating to listen to him talk and he has a lot of dialogue. Compared to Antorelle, who is supposed to be an obnoxious minor threat, but has a pleasant voice. The casting should have switched those voice actors in my opinion.

4 stars for the story instead of 5 because of the very old-school feminism. I’ve always loved The Enchanted Forest Chronicles, though re-reading them now there are parts that are uncomfortably gender essentialist. And I’m not a fan of putting down other women (the silly airheaded princesses) in order to make Cimorene look good. The book was written in the 90s tho, so it’s pretty typical of the era I guess.

It would be good if I got the book...

This is the second Audible book that I have paid for using my credit that I received a chapter as if a sample instead of the full book. There are free services out there. Fix this and give me my PAID FOR book or I will go to the Better Business bureau.
