Publisher's summary

Jeanette Peterson left behind the man who loves her to go to nursing school in New York, promising to come back in six months and marry him. His love is the only thing that sees her through the trials ahead.

When the time comes to make the toughest decision of all, will she choose justice or mercy out of many shades of gray?

From Amelia C. Adams, best-selling author of the Kansas Crossroads series, comes this novella about one girl's desire to follow her dreams and the man who encourages her from miles away.

sea of strangers.

I enjoyed the book. it was interesting to hear how it was for doctors and nurses in that time. It was a little short.
the narrator was good. Her words were clear and easy to listen to.

Great read!

Interesting story with great characters and fun facts from the medical field of the 1800s. The narrator did a great job and I just really liked this story.

Wonderful listen!

A glimpse into the life of young ladies, with goals of helping others, at a time that having a mind of their own was not always acceptable. The young ladies show strength of character and bravery. A wonderful listen.

Short but sweet story

This is obviously a continuation of a story, almost like an epilogue. Since it's Book 1, it introduces a fascinating array of characters that I'm looking forward to learning more about.

The writing is rich, as always with Adams, and I got into the characters right away which can be harder to do with a shorter tale. I'll now search out the story that came before this one. The narrator was a little stilted, but some of that might have come from the time period. It didn't take away from the story though.

Great historical novella

The overall story is great, and I would have done better to have just read this one. The narrator enunciates too much and makes everyone sound ridiculous.

A wonderful story comes to life

Janette travels far from home to escape her lecherous umcle. Sent to Nursing School by Dr. Phillip Wayment, she wants nothing more than to finish her schooling and return to marry him and become his nurse. Six long months are between her and Phillip, but she is determined to complete her studies and be with the man she loves.
This book really co!as alive in Audible and I'm very glad to own it.
