Publisher's summary

In this urgent time, World on the Edge calls out the pivotal environmental issues and how to solve them now.

We are in a race between political and natural tipping points. Can we close coal-fired power plants fast enough to save the Greenland ice sheet and avoid catastrophic sea level rise? Can we raise water productivity fast enough to halt the depletion of aquifers and avoid water-driven food shortages? Can we cope with peak water and peak oil at the same time? These are some of the issues Lester R. Brown skillfully distills in World on the Edge. Bringing decades of research and analysis into play, he provides the responses needed to reclaim our future.

a must read for anyone that cares about the future

Thorough account of the current and future state of earth's environment. Easy to follow and understand. The topic is a bit doom and gloom, but a must read for anyone that cares about the future of humankind.

Old book that is more relevant in modern day!

I had to read this for a college class and was greatly surprised by how much we need to consider this data for progressive climate action. My
Focus is geared towards non toxic green energy, water and soil conservation and sustainable food production. This book made me think deep about new topics and validated stuff I am already focused on.

Inspirational and Aspirational

It happened that I was in the process of writing an eco/SciFi thriller while listening to this book, it not only fine-tuned me to the state of the art in developing technologies but permitted shameless borrowing of anticipated technologies that can literally raise the bar for the human race. That bar is not only our ability to solve problems but the asymptote called limiting factors that will permit some additional growth with less pain and suffering.
If you are interested in the future of the Human race, read this book. Do not wear pink shaded glasses. It won't be easy.
Also, be on the lookout for 'Room for Tomorrow' due out in 2018.

Good overall info

I like how the author covered a variety of topics briefly to tie together the overall picture of crises we face.
