Publisher's summary

Are you truly in danger or has your brain simply "tricked" you into thinking you are? In The Worry Trick, psychologist and anxiety expert David Carbonell shows how anxiety hijacks the brain and offers effective techniques to help you break the cycle of worry, once and for all.

Anxiety is a powerful force. It makes us question ourselves and our decisions, causes us to worry about the future, and fills our days with dread and emotional turbulence. Based in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), this audiobook is designed to help you break the cycle of worry.

Worry convinces us there's danger, and then tricks us into getting into fight, flight, or freeze mode - even when there is no danger. The techniques in this audiobook, rather than encouraging you to avoid or try to resist anxiety, show you how to see the trick that underlies your anxious thoughts, and how avoidance can backfire and make anxiety worse.

If you're ready to start observing your anxious feelings with distance and clarity - rather than getting tricked once again - this audiobook will show you how.

Life changing

Life changing book. Worry is a difficult topic to write about, but this book mastered it! Helped me start working through a lot of my chronic worries, and will probably re-listen to this book in the coming weeks to review the strategies. From day one it started improving my chronic worries!

Not what I was expecting

I struggled to get through this book.
Unfortunately it was not what I expected. Overall I think it's better suited for someone that has no idea how to deal with anxiety or worrying at all.
So if you have any background with mental health, as a social worker, nurse, paramedic, medic, etc. I don't think you'll take anything new away from this book.

Good, but not great

You are not going to learn a lot of helpful tips here, I thought it was going to be better. Yes, something new here and there, but anyway, I have not apply anything the books says. Before buying the book I started listing my worries and writing what would be the worst case scenario and how I would respond ti it if it happened. Also VERY important, I started to write actions I could do before the scenarios happened just in case they happened, I would be prepared. For example, a worry I have is that an airplane leaves me behind and that I miss my flight, that worries me a lot! So I listed that to solve that I would have to save some money just in case it happened in order to buy other tickets for another flight. So now I am not so worry about it because I know I can always buy another ticket for a later time. And also I listed things to prevent it like always asking at the hotel the time to get to the airport at the time of my flight and leaving earlier to the airport, etc. That has helped me more than this book.

Amazing book

This book hit so many points with me, I almost felt like David had taken a swim around my brain. It almost brought me to tears several times with how accurate it is, and I will try using the tools that he gives during the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who has problems with overthinking and worrying.

A good approach to anxiety and chronic worry

Although I felt like I was listening to a TV Shopping channel a lot of the time, the narrator does a good job going through this creative book about anxiety and worrying. Yes, we all have it, some have chronic worry and there are solutions for it. This book won't cure your anxiety or teach you how to avoid all the worries we have, but it'll give you great tools (even some funny ones) to deal with the feelings. I enjoyed reading it and listening to it, I felt identified with many of the questions and learned many things about the worry trick.

Kind of silly but helpful

If you actually worry about unrealistic scenarios this may be helpful. Since I worry about things that actually are happening or likely to happen based on recent experience, I didn't find it too useful. But it's well-written and well-performed.
