Publisher's Summary

This is a book about 10 "Great Ideas". Each chapter is an attempt to savor one idea that has been discovered by several of the world's civilizations - to question it in light of what we now know from scientific research, and to extract from it the lessons that still apply to our modern lives.

"Fascinating stuff, accessibly expressed." (Booklist)

    "Most listen"

Mr. Haidt has some delightful views on the modern world. His insight on sociology, psychology and with some empirical data to support findings on meditation, modern medicine and cognitive therapy are a few tidbits that he expands throughout this book..its a must listen.

    "Not an easy listen"

Rather long, boring and does not make easy to take away points. Rather philosophical with little practical application. Maybe it is meant more the deeper thinkers amongst us.

"Jon eloquently puts into words and explains what"

...you may wondered about or already knew, intuitively. The book helped "explain" and thus gain confidence in emerging wisdom from within!

"IT'S THE MULTI-RELIGIOUS CONSTITUTION OF HAPPINESS"
What did you love best about The Happiness Hypothesis?

I shared many of the ideals of this book already, and it is comforting to continiously hear quotes from holy scriputres or ancient philosophers that backed these ideals up. Even though it quotes the Qur'an. the Holy Bible, the Torah, Buddha, Atheist beliefs and Hindusit texts, etc, it is far from being religious and focusses solely on humanity from the ancient days to modern times.

What does George K. Wilson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He adds a voice of wisdom to this essay.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Happiness has to come from within and it is a mental state.

    "Very well researched, fantastically presented"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I've purchased it for at least six different people. I read this book at the perfect time this year: this book prepared me for so much that came after I finished listening. Haidt's theories seem so well researched, and he has presented them with such care, in such a beautiful order. I love his breakdown of Love and think anyone in any sort of relationship or with aspirations to be in one should read it. And the way he's broken down meditation has given me a reference that has helped me through the much deeper study that I have gone on to after this book. Thank you, Jonathon Haidt.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

The elephant and the rider. Brilliant. So true. And the chapter on love. Those stand out most, but I feel like I was bookmarking something in every chapter.

"Incredibly dry presentation - fell flat for me"
Would you be willing to try another one of George K. Wilson’s performances?

I'm afraid not. I listened to this after listening to the dynamic and humorous Brune' Brown's "The Power of Vulnerability" and this fell flat. I had to speed up the vocals to connect with the material. It was slow, laborious and just plain dull. It may have been the contrast between what I was already listening to and enjoying, but I have at 20 audible books on positive psychology and this one didn't stack up. I'm returning it.

    Any additional comments?

On a more positive note, as far as happiness goes, I highly recommend "The Power of Vulnerability" by Brene'Brown, it's insightful, dynamic and I laughed out loud so many times that it's become a go to feel good audiobook for me. I haven't tired of it after 4-5 listens.
