What made the experience of listening to Study Skills the most enjoyable?
The information in the book about study skills was valuable to me and made it enjoyable. I no longer go to school, but I find that life is a learning experience and in business, that is particularly true. You have to keep studying and learning in order to keep ahead of the pack. This book explains methods of study that make retention and finding what you need to find easy to do.
What other book might you compare Study Skills to and why?
I think I would compare it to another one of the author's books called Competitive Strategy mainly because you have to have that competitive attitude in order to succeed in learning. Some of the tactics used in competition can be applied to study skills and, at the same time, some of the methods of study can be used in competition. The books go well together
Have you listened to any of Joshua Mackey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Joshua Mackey never gives a bad performance. I think he could take a boring book, and this one was not boring, and make it sound great. His voice inflection is wonderful and keeps your interest going. I'll admit, I listened to this book after only have about 3 hours of sleep at night, and Mr. Mackey's voice did not put me to sleep. He energized me and made me enthusiastic about study skills.
What insight do you think you’ll apply from Study Skills?
Treating learning, especially when in school, like you are in a business. I wish I had thought about that when I was in college because I would have gone much further and my grade would have been better. The book tells you to treat your education career like a career. Take it seriously and try to get ahead as much as you can. It stresses taking leadership in classes, like being lead person in group projects. This book was about 30 years too late for me, but if you are in school now, it would benefit you to listen to it.
Any additional comments?
This book has so much valuable information it is hard to list it all. The one thing I did find interesting was how to listen effectively. You sit in lecture after lecture in school and your brain doesn't take it all in. This book helps you to discern what is important in a lecture and how to retain the information. It also shows you how to really follow directions, which is something most people don't do. They do not truly read the instructions do not do a task totally right. This helped me a great deal in business and I wish I would have read this when I was in school.

This is much more than a book on how to study. It includes all aspects of academic learning, from how to choose your classes to what to do when you get a teacher who is hard to learn from.
Along the way, all the related aspects of study are covered. I was reminded that a schedule (for study as well as sleeping) can enhance my recall, and that it's important to include brain breaks while studying. This book affirmed much that I am doing right and gave me additional ideas for how to study smarter. I would recommend this book for professionals who want a way to "study smarter" as well for students. it would make a nice gift.

I actually read this on a friend's account and decided to buy it for a personal reference. I like the suggestions brought forth in this book for learning study skills. I have been a lifelong student, though I'm not in school currently, and additional tips on how to study so that you retain the information you need and don't hold on to the things you don't need are always needed. I recommend this book as a handy resource to college students and high school students, too. And if you are asked to take tests for promotions at work, this would also be a great book to have.

I recently began grad school, and after years of being away from the academic world, I was struggling with cultivating a steady and productive means of studying. My grades began to reflect my poor study habits. I had to do something. This book was the answer to my woes. I learned how to set up an area that is beneficial to studying, how to be self-disciplined, a skilled manager of time and much more. Great book. Highly recommended.

I just started a difficult section of my graduate program, and I’m starting a few courses that are extremely technical. It has been a while since I’ve really had to study, and it is important to me that I keep my grades up in my program. This book has a lot of great tips for students of any level. Even as a grad student, I found this book to be extremely helpful. The one piece of advice that has really stuck with me is to treat my classes like my career. I’m going to school full-time, and while I am working as a graduate research assistant as well, the bulk of my work is actually coursework. I think that if I change my attitude a little, and employ a few other tips from this book, I will make it through these technical courses with my 4.0 GPA intact!

Recycled info from basic take care of yourself courses. Nothing interesting here at best, and mostly serves as a massive plug for other works from the author. At worst, some of the advice is wrong.
The book is really surface level on how to study in the USA system. I wish I had known it is focused in that system. And many of the things he gives as tips are really basic level.
But the narrating is good. It was easy to listen to and fits the style of the book.
This audiobook is an excellent study primer, offering snippets of study advice and learning methods. As a short audiobook it is certainly not exhaustive nor are there detailed explanations of the study strategies, but if you are looking for a starting place to sharpen your skills this may be it.
Would you try another book from Ace McCloud and Study Guide and/or Joshua Mackey?
Absolutely not.
Has Study Skills turned you off from other books in this genre?
No
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narrator was good, the content was not.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Study Skills?
All of them. Waste of time.
Any additional comments?
This is general knowledge, not practical ways to accelerate learning.
Study Skills is a full on, motivational "how to" guide to approaching the study of any subject with a 'can do' attitude. I found it very useful in regards to getting started (always a sticking point to someone who could procrastinate for Britain!) and also in the area of retaining the information learned. The guide isn't a heavy study of study, it's a fast-paced composition of scores of hints and tips as to how to approach study from the outset, how to keep going when motivation is flagging and how to give yourself the best possible chance of success. The advice is practical and easily put into practice by anyone who is committed to learning as a pathway to a better future. I appreciated the fact that is was a quick listen that tooled me up to get on with the main event.

I think I am quite a natural student, I really enjoying learning and strive to do my best to apply myself in whatever subject I am studying. However I do find it hard sometimes to study meaningfully and effectively and so I bought this guide to give me some suggestions to improve my study power. This audio book has really helped me to see where I can improve and really learn things efficiently. This includes prioiritising, being organised, not getting overly stressed and also maintaining an open minded and positive attitude. This is a very helpful guide.

This book on study skills was a really interesting and helpful listen. I learnt a great deal throughout the book, as the author manages to cover many points related to studying more effectively in a supportive way.
Their are so many helpful tidbits in this book. Whether its getting ready to study, with tips on setting academic goals and taking chances on courses, or some awesome note taking advice. This study skills book is a must for anyone seeking to improve their ability to retain information.
The best part for me was some of the memorization and mental strategies that you learn. These are worth the price of the book alone as their are some great pointers here.
An excellent study skills guide and highly recommended!

“Study Skills” by Ace McCloud is a very practical school, college or university guide for all students. The audiobooks contains lots of strategies how to learn effectively, remember things easily and pass exam in the high grade. First of all good organization skills are key to success. So good way is to plan your learning process step by step and control progress. Is a good practice to learn small amount of material every day and using agenda when planning. My favourite are tips how to remember things easier like acronyms, when first letters of words join together with funny association. Also you can use your creativity and imagination to remember material. Very handy is thinking about education like a career, so planning ahead, setting goals, methods and measure your progress is a powerful strategy. I find also group learning very interesting and effective, especially before your exams to refresh all materials via discussion and question and answers with your colleagues.
Nice advice is to prepare your office or place to study in proper, easy to focus way and use aromatherapy to make a whole process of learning more pleasurable. Also very useful are change your everyday routine and starts to heat healthier, use exercises and have enough sleep.
“Study skills” are very valuable audiobook that helps you achieve better result in your learning and make whole process more effective. Highly recommended!

The narrator and books sounds like a big commercial. Full of things that are common sense. Feel non the wiser. Not the book for me unfortunately.
I am a mature student and although there were a few useful tips I found the way it was narrated a bit cheesy and annoying. Maybe it's not so annoying if you are American.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I would have appreciated a bit more practical advices and procedures... some exercises maybe. What is here is a good start but... not sufficient
Would you ever listen to anything by Ace McCloud and Study Guide again?
yes
What three words best describe Joshua Mackey’s performance?
overall the performance is ok
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. this book has tangible tips that i believe will help everyone especially students
Have you listened to any of Joshua Mackey’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Joshua's performance is always top notch!
Very bland and more aimed at an American market. I expected so much more. At least this book is short and a good summery.
