Amazingly Helpful book on Social Anxiety

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Of course yes. I have actually recommended it to many and most of them have come to thank me later. Most people are suffering from social anxiety, and this book provides all the advice, skills and practices you require to undertake in overcoming the illness. It therefore serves as a great guide and its importance is abundant.

What about Susan Kruth’s performance did you like?

Though being the first time to listen to her narration, I must admit her performance was completely great. Her accent rhymed with the important points and she emphasized clearly on the key points.

What did you learn from Social Anxiety that you would use in your daily life?

I have learnt that social anxiety is self-created and can be rationalized into small manageable chunks once you learn how to internalize it. I have adopted this mentality to ensure that I manage my social anxiety to prevent it from diminishing my thinking ability and improve relations in workplace.

Any additional comments?

For years, I have been attending a therapy and also taking medications. This follows my social anxiety which have been affecting me especially in my place of work. When under pressure, I would find myself not thinking properly, sweating and having an increased heart rate. I ended up being actively addicted to the internet searching for all information on social anxiety but all I got was repetition of the same nonsense content. I still consider coming across this book as a miracle. The book has enabled me to create an inner awareness, accept how I am and manage my mental illness positively. Using the in depth advice provided by the author has enabled me to be happier and feel safe in my workplace and interact with fellow workers excellently. I would highly recommend those afflicted with social anxiety to get this book to and implement the solid advice given to cure social anxiety.

tackling social anxiety

If you could sum up Social Anxiety in three words, what would they be?

Tips for social anxiety

What does Susan Kruth bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The way she narrated the book was engaging and interesting to listen to. I am a very slow reader and sometimes have to re read what I just read and I still don't grasp what I read. Listening to books is how I learn. Her voice was easy to pay attention to and soak in all the information.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Your social anxiety doesn't have to dominate your life, you can take control and cope with it in a healthy way.

Any additional comments?

I often feel like my peers are judging me when I don't want to hang out with them in a social setting. I do suffer from social anxiety at times. I feel like I have to pee every 10 minutes, I blush easily and I don't want someone to think I am attracted to them when I'm not, I get sweaty, I also get this urge to run away and hide in the bathroom. I like how this book doesn't come across as judging you like you are doing this to your self on purpose so just stop it. You can't just stop it like flipping a light switch, it's programmed into you. This book gives you tips to help adjust to being in a public setting.

Helps confidence! 1 Week and i was like a new man!

Any additional comments?

I've had social anxiety for years and have tried several books, audio books and even hypnosis. This book worked best and although it says 1 week its more realistic to say 2. Maybe as mine was so bad, but listened to it 3 times over and already people are noticing the change in me. really a life changer, no doubt!

Finally Some Help for Social Anxiety Sufferers!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I've already recommended this audio book! I have had problems with social anxiety for a few years now -- I go to therapy, and I also take meds for Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Many people that I know have some form of anxiety, often social issues are a factor. So I have mentioned it to a few peeps already.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Non-fiction books don't really have characters. However, I guess the author is my favorite one. I've been into Jennifer Alison's books lately and I really enjoy the way she writes. It actually reminds me a lot of my therapist, like someone who cares and has lots of insight into smart ways that I can change and adapt -- not to eliminate my mental illnesses, but to accept and manage them.

What about Susan Kruth’s performance did you like?

She sounded very intelligent and made the words really come to life. Also, I thought her accent was cool. I have never heard her other performances but I bet she'd be really awesome at a fiction audio book too.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"See this documentary now -- even if it's just on TV, in bed, hiding under the covers." Which is what an extreme introvert with GAD or social anxiety, like me, might do! :)

Any additional comments?

There are lots of memes and jokes circulating the internet about social anxiety, and while I think it's unfortunate that people sometimes take the jokes as facts, i also like that the awareness has happened -- putting it out there shows that perfectly normal, smart, wonderful people can have anxiety about everyday situations. We aren't all weird or defective, and in fact none of us really are. We're just people. The information in this book can go a long way toward nullifying the stigma of those issues, and to promote understanding as well. And, if you're afflicted with some type of anxiety and reading this review, I urge you to get help. it is never too late. And give this book a try, talk about what you've learned with your therapist. Even small things can add up to big achievements eventually.

Really helped me get over my issues fast

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Because it was fast. I am sick of 25 hour long books full of absolute nonsense and medical stuff. I just want help. I got it from this book.

What did you learn from Social Anxiety that you would use in your daily life?

So much. I have learnt that their is no overnight cure and it will take time, but social anxiety around work can be cured. I feel so much better.

Any additional comments?

Really good book which helped me loads, especially with issues to do with job interviews, meeting, parties and other work related things. Still a little scary but i am so so much better.

Great tips for overcoming those uneasy situations

Any additional comments?

As a manager of my team, I often find myself in uncomfortable situations. I'm also an introvert which isn't helpful in any way. When under pressure I like many out there struggle to respond effectively when placed in these situations. I purchased this book because I would find myself not thinking clearly when in pressure situations. The put covers a good portion of clamming up when speaking but what helped me more was mindset I needed to be in when I felt my symptoms surfacing. This has been critical for me and allowed me to think with more clarity and less anxiety.

Become the person you were always meant to be.

Would you consider the audio edition of Social Anxiety to be better than the print version?

I would definitely consider the audio edition of this book better than the print version. The audio narrator helps you overcome your social anxiety by being empathetic. You can hear that through her voice. She really cares about the listener and conveys that not only through the authors words but her prologue and epilogue where she provides her own advice and recommendations which are incredibly useful.

What other book might you compare Social Anxiety to and why?

There is actually another book that looks at social anxiety by the same author but doesn't go as much into detail about anxiety in the workplace. This book specifically focuses on that so that's why I like this one in regards.

Which character – as performed by Susan Kruth – was your favorite?

The narrator

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Social Anxiety?

There are several insights I will apply from the book such as saying positive things to myself, meditation, and complimenting other people. By complimenting other people I can make myself happy. Honest compliments make both myself and the receiver feel great. I can meditate for 10 minutes a day which clears the negative thoughts and toxins out of my body. Lastly, reinforcing positive thoughts will help me be more confident and eliminate any negative thinking. This all helps get rid of social anxiety.

Any additional comments?

I highly recommend this book to all my friends and family. If you are looking for a book that will help you get rid of social anxiety in the workplace then this is the one for you. A few months after implementing the tips and advice in this book I was able to hold several public speaking events at work. I was able to present without feeling anxiety and I learned to love myself. That is invaluable. You owe it to yourself to become a better you.

Excellent!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have had a social anxiety since I was a kid. At first I thought it is just shyness and that I will eventually overcome it when I get older, but unfortunately for me it is a little more serious issue. My social anxiety manifests especially when I am under pressure and because of that pressure I quit two of my last jobs. Now thanks to this book I got some awesome tips and strategies on how to cope with my insecurity. This is a material that you should listen on your way to work, because it will give you the tools to push through your anxiety, feel much more confident and be more productive.
