Publisher's summary

Anti-police media propaganda has created a perception of police shootings that is very different than reality.

Most civilians have never been in a life or death fight, so they are left with Hollywood and media fiction to educate them about law enforcement altercations. The psychology behind officer involved shootings is missing from the public narrative. What occurs in the officer's head, before, during, and after the shooting is the story that is rarely told.

In 12 exciting, real-life accounts, you will discover that police shootings are extremely complicated, and the consequences are far greater than most can ever imagine. This audiobook shares the story that officers do not get to tell, and it will prepare those who have not yet been forced to pull the trigger.

More stories than analytical

I appreciate hearing these stories of how officers were emotionally impacted by shootings. However, I was going there would be a more scientific discussion. This was more a collecting of personal accounts of events without any analysis. If you're a civilian, it definitely reveals a neglected perspective from the mainstream media coverage of police shootings. Too often the discussion about police shootings focuses on whether the person shot warranted that level of force or was a victim. This book does a good job of relaying the events that occur after a shooting that the media doesn't sensationalize

Very insightful.

As someone who plans to become a police officer in the future and as I am trying to get more understanding of what it is like to be a police officer and understand the good and bad in the job this has helped show me more about what the experience can be like.

Loved it

I was in a few shootings where I’ve had to take lives on the job and it’s good to hear how others are coping with incidents like these. Good read

I’m not a cop but...

I appreciate those who choose this line of work. The accounts in this book illustrate the real life split-second judgements and decisions police officers are called to make, and the consequences.
The subtitle is a bit misleading, I think. From ‘The Psychology Behind..’ I was expecting something more analytical of the mind before, during and after the shootings but the book is only several accounts of shootings and the subsequent struggles the officers had to face: dreams, sleeplessness, alcohol, etc. Regardless, the book was good.

Great Book! Gives you an Excellent understanding of Police Challenges

This was an excellent book. The stories give you an excellent view on some of what police officers go through on a daily basis. The different characters that have given their testimony allow you to relate with different personality styles and how they handle issues.
This book provides excellent insight on how to connect with police officers when asking questions or ministering to them.

Helpful for new cadet

As a cadet, I found this book to be a great insight into a topic that is not formally covered in an academy setting. Bringing multiple stories together from different officers gave a sampling of how differently people will respond to an officer involved shooting. I would definitely recommend this book for any person seriously considering a career in law enforcement.

Recommended Listen for Law Enforcement

I'd strongly recommend listening to Shots Fired is you are currently a Law Enforcement Officer or are looking to start a career in Law Enforcement. It's a quick listen, but covers what happens after an officer involved shooting really well. #Lawenforcement #mentalperpetration #thinblueline #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Great Book.

I really enjoyed this book. The narrator pronounces some words different than I would but the content was awesome.
