The greatest focus among the book centers on Gordon Allport and Erich Fromm and his humanistic psychoanalysis. Fromm's thesis is despite mankind being pulled apart from their union among one another by evolution, they continue to possess the power of reason.

As ethics can represent an expansion into multiple domains, so too can the code of ethics as set forth by the American Psychological Association (APA). These principles of ethics guide the behavior of practicing psychologists among their profession. This set of ethical principles can act as a guide of behavior for individuals within multiple facets of life. The major principles to the Code of Ethics involve avoiding harm, practicing fairness, avoiding misrepresentation, providing fair access to treatment, and respecting the value and worth of all.
