Publisher's summary

Pathological mind games. Covert and overt put-downs. Triangulation. Gaslighting. Projection. These are the manipulative tactics survivors of malignant narcissists are unfortunately all too familiar with. As victims of silent crimes where the perpetrators are rarely held accountable, survivors of narcissistic abuse have lived in a war zone of epic proportions, enduring an abuse cycle of love-bombing and devaluation - psychological violence on steroids. From how to heal our addiction to the narcissist to how to recognize a covert narcissist, Shahida Arabi's articles on narcissistic abuse have gained renown as some of the most accurate and in-depth depictions of this terrifying trauma, resonating with millions of survivors all over the world and receiving endorsements from numerous mental health professionals. In this essay compilation, listeners can enjoy some of her most popular articles as well as new thought pieces on narcissistic abuse: what therapists have to say about malignant narcissists and how children of narcissistic parents can become trapped in the trauma repetition cycle. Survivors are offered new insights on what it means to be both a survivor and a thriver of covert manipulation and trauma. Power teaches us that it is important to not only understand the tactics of toxic personalities but also to recognize and combat the effects of narcissistic abuse; it guides the survivor to learning, growing, healing and most importantly of all - owning their agency to rebuild their lives and transform their powerlessness into victory.

Helpful “As”

This book has all the information from several other books packed concisely into one book. The author does not go on an on about what horrible things the Narc did but does gives examples to validate your own experience. The only part I did not find relevant was the INFJ section but that wasn’t too long. If you are going to pick one book pick this one. She also has a ton of great resources on how to start healing. Thank you!

This book saved me

I was dealing with an extreme narcissist and googled what he was putting me through and this book came up. I started listening to it and it downright may have saved my life. Every chapter was more of what he was doing to me mentally and like clockwork he would go right to the next thing shed say.I started standing up for myself and all of his deceit and lies came tumbling out. I've gone jo contact and cant thank this author enough. in the midst of healing but doing the work. I wouldve still been in a whirlwind confused state of it wasnt for this book.

A lot of information

It was long and jam-packed with information. Not all the info will apply to everyone so the book is set up in a way that you can skip to what does apply, repeating vital information, key word descriptions, etc in each chapter. I listened to the whole book all the way through so the repetition was somewhat unnecessary. Overall, it was a great book and the narrator was easily understood.

This book is as it is titled...POWER!

I appreciate the boldness and unwavering insight into this ever growing epidemic. We are all faced with abusive interactions on a daily basis. I very much value the information and tools that this book provides for living a better life. She also holds not only the abuser accountable, but also the survivors of trauma. There is no excuse for not only knowingly harming another, but also for knowingly choosing ignorance. Period. Regardless, I feel everyone should be held accountable to educate and be aware of emotional intelligence just as much as expected to learn how to walk, talk, read, write, add, subtract, and so on.
I highly recommend this book, for sure!

Eye opening

This author touches on words and explanations that make so much sense to someone who has lived with someone that expressed this behavior. Made things that happened understandable.

Digestable

Thorough and repetitive, which is a good thing with this difficult subject matter. Easy to digest.
