Editorial reviews

Beth Terry was once, like everyone else, addicted to plastic. After reading an article describing plastic pollution in our oceans, she became determined to live a plastic-free life. Beth Terry's candid and emotional narration make listening to Plastic-Free: How I Kicked the Plastic Habit and How You Can Too a shared experience with the author. Packed with information, anecdotes, and advice, Terry gives the listener convincing reasons to trade the convenience of plastic for more responsible solutions. From sweatshirts to toothpaste, from old glasses to packaged food, Terry’s upbeat and heartfelt guide challenges listeners to become activists in the fight to reduce pollution.

Publisher's summary

Like many people, Beth Terry didn't think an individual could have much impact on the environment. But while laid up after surgery, she read an article about the staggering amount of plastic polluting the oceans and decided then and there to kick her plastic habit. Now she wants to teach you how you can too. In her quirky and humorous style - well known to the fans of her popular blog, My Plastic-Free Life - Terry provides personal anecdotes, stats about the environmental and health problems related to plastic, and personal solutions and tips on how to limit your plastic footprint. Terry includes handy lists and charts for easy reference, ways to get involved in larger community actions, and profiles of individuals - Plastic-Free Heroes - who have gone beyond personal solutions to create a change on a larger scale. Plastic-Free also includes chapters on letting go of eco-guilt, strategies for coping with overwhelming problems, and ways to relate to other people who aren't as far along on the plastic-free path.

Both a practical guide and the story of a personal journey from helplessness to empowerment, Plastic-Free is a must-listen for anyone concerned about the ongoing health and happiness of themselves, their children, and the planet.

Great book!

I thought I knew alot already about reducing the use of plastic but this book really opened my eyes about the extent of the problem and the devastating effects of plastic on the environment, animals, and our own health. Please read this book and follow the author's advice about reducing the use of plastic in your own life and inspiring others to do the same. I already started my own plastic reduction plan before I finished reading this book. Thank you Beth and thank you Audible!

Www

I wish they could remake this book without her saying www a thousand times. It’s really annoying and distracting... hard to focus on the actual content

Great book but better in print for referencing

Narrated well and very good useful content, but a great big chunk of the audio book has lists of websites and products that is spelled out and gets very tedious very quickly having to skip ahead often. I'd say it's better in print so you can easily reference in the future what product to get where.

Entertaining and interesting read

I really enjoyed this book. Keeping track of all the links mentioned was pretty difficult with an audiobook. Trying too take notes while listening detracted from the experience. Including a pdf file for the links would really improve this book.

Wonderful inspiring insight!

I started listening to this audio book in July when I took the plasticfreejuly.org challenge.

I do my best to refuse, reuse and recycle but I wanted to increase my knowledge of how I could do this more. This book is it! It's helpful with years of knowledge that Beth has built up. I am thankful for that and it has inspired me to do more. Together we can achieve more.

Thank you so much!

Wonderful non-judgmental advice and options

Fantastic story of Beth’s awareness evolution that’s well-researched. I appreciated that she’s not judgmental, and her position isn’t expressed in a dogmatic way. She also provides many helpful tips that are designed to meet you where you are in your own plastic-free journey.

Enlightening and empowering

This audiobook was incredibly insightful and highly educational. I always thought I lived a relatively plastic-less life and now I realize it's in many more places than I ever cared to notice. The author painstakingly goes through almost every area of life, giving you ideas to reduce or totally remove plastic. As she says, it won't be an easy task, but it's not impossible either. I'm looking forward to reducing my plastic use more this year.

valuable, but privileged

I really enjoyed this audiobook; it felt very quick and the performance is great. That said, some of the advice and several of the stories feel very privileged, and do pull me out a bit. By the end, however, I was very glad to have picked this book.

A great resource and inspiration!

This was a great book. It goes more in depth and has more recommendations than anything else Ive found. However, given all these resources... I do feel the book would have been better in a true e-book or in print. Then it could have been an easy reference for years to come. In addition, I found the authors voice a little to high for my taste. I did occasionally take a break from the book. But, since reading it I have implemented several of her suggestions.
