Secret knowledge

This book has been on repeat with me over several years. There is so much information, good information, even great information in this book to inform our practice.
Take the time sit down with Kottler, and learn from the master. He looks at practice from most every perspective.

More than just a school book...

Though this was a requirement for a class, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Kottler's straightforwardness provided a clearer vision into the world of counseling and what was to be expected. Never have I ever read a textbook that made me think as hard and at times, laugh out loud as this book. The insight that Kottler provides is immeasurable. Reading this book was like talking with the author himself. Whether in school or a professional in the field, this is a definite must read. I look forward to reading more from this professional. The narration, provided by Rob Shapiro, added so much humanism to the text. I both read and listened to this book and both versions provided a plethora of information and insight...

Honest and comprehensive

I’ve worked as a counselor in clinical field for some years now and am looking to return to school to be a psychologist. This book helped affirm what I already know about the field but I really enjoyed the last few chapters — well worth to read those particular chapters again.

I Failed as a Therapist

I so wish I had listened to this audiobook when I was training and practicing as a therapist and counsellor! I quit after a few years of practice because I felt like I was not coping and not even remotely useful as a therapist. after listening to this honest account from such a reputable therapist, I now believe I was not alone in how I doubted myself and felt overwhelmed by others pain. such an important book. if you are considering this book, please go ahead. you can thank me later 😅

Great for the new therapist

An enjoyable read. He has a lot of knowledge and experience and draws from many other therapists to get different perspectives.

enjoyable

An enjoyable rendition of a book that was required reading in an MSW class. It was good to go from the beginning to end on a book that I read sections as an assignment.
Being newly in the field of therapy, it was helpful to hear that others experience emotions I have felt at times when working with clients.
